I love college football. The excitement, the controversy, the sounds, and the passion. And most importantly, the storylines. You know 'em, how underdog cupcake beats football powerhouse, rivalries that have gone on forever, and the tradition at certain schools. And speaking of things that have gone on forever, I think it's about time for Bobby Bowden to call it quits at Florida State. He's starting to look like Father Time...
Bowden, who turns 78 in November, will never quit you know. The man has too much pride and the prostate the size of a bowling ball."I just as soon die on the football field as die on the beach," Bowden said Monday at the Atlantic Coast Conference football kickoff. "If I retired, what else have I got to look forward to other than dying?" asked college football's best known great-grandfather. "I can't imagine me being retired."
Understandable Grande Gato. I understand that strolling the sidelines and talking into a powerless headset is more exciting than pushing shuffleboard, but you aren't doing anything but tarnishing the legacy that you are by winning 6 to 7 games a season. The Atlantic Coast Conference has actually become competitive since Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College have jumped in, no longer can you roll over the likes of Duke, North Carolina, and NC State to conference crowns and BCS berths. You actually have to *gasp* coach a few "serious" ball games to win your conference now.
The fans of Florida State should be a little concerned with Bowden's motives. Is he sticking around just to stay ahead of Penn State Coach Joe Paterno (who REALLY needs to move on)? Is he really sticking around because he has nothing better to do with his life after football? Or does he honestly think FSU is in the place to win national/conference titles again?
Bob, (can I call you that?) it's time to put it down. It's time to check out the Jello side of life at your local retirement home. Think about all the perks you get. Bedpans, warm milk, golf, sponge baths, and bingo every night, all of these things will be at your disposal. No longer will you have to figure out how to run wheel routes, deal with recruits (whether arrested or just the recruiting process), and dealing with rowdy boosters.
It's time to put it down Old Man, time to put the ego down.

He could always try out for the highly coveted role of Special Consultant of Football Operations.
It's pretty much where he is right now.
I think realistically, Mickey Andrews is the REAL coach. Bowden is just a figure head to keep the student section at ease. But I heard the boosters still aren't happy with him, despite Jeff leaving the team.
The way FSU's been playing the last few seasons he doesn't have much to look forward to other than dying even if he doesn't retire.
