Class Does Not Interest Texas A&M Athletes

by Eric Horowitz, ShakedownSports

Just in case you thought the NCAA's new rules were actually forcing athletes to take academics seriously, some student athletes from Texas A&M stepped up to the plate to let us know that's not the case. The following is from a letter to the editor in Texas A&M's student newspaper, The Battalion.

I am writing to convey my frustration over the presence of student athletes in my ENDS 149 class, which contains approximately 30 student athletes. Over the past three weeks, I have observed complete disrespect and disregard for our professor, Dr. Klein. As a senior, I have never seen such behavior in a classroom. In class, there has been roughhousing, sleeping on the floor and constant chatter during lecture by these athletes. Last week, an athlete left the classroom four times, cell phone in hand, during the lecture. Only after Dr. Klein acknowledged his rude behavior did he stop. Everyday, one female athlete sleeps on the floor with her head propped up by her backpack. There have been numerous incidents such as these. This is unacceptable behavior for a college classroom.
Sounds like a fun class to me. If the lack of interest in academics is any indication, look for Texas A&M athletes to deliver some outstanding performances this year.

For God's sake it's Texas A&M, not Harvard. If you want to go to a real class, don't go to Texas A&M.
