Fence Sitter's Prohibited: Can Lewis Hamilton Really Win the World Championship in His Rookie Year?

'Fence Sitters Prohibited' is a feature to remedy all the non-commital crap you hear from announcers who hate to be wrong. The analysis may be horribly flawed and the answer ridiculous, but you'll always get a solid opinion one way or another. If you have a question you want answered then email us using the link remembering to put 'Fence Sitters Prohibited' in the subject. Thanks.

ANSWER: No. No. Not a damn chance.

ANALYSIS: Look, Hamilton is good, really really good, but not even Michael Schumacher won the Formula-1 World Title at his first go. The simple truth is that driving a 200mph car to its limit takes experience and Hamilton just hasn't got enough of it to win.

Yes Lewis has finished on the podium in all nine of this years races but what you have to understand is that the European circuits are where the other drivers earn their crust. They test on these circuits, they practice on these circuits, and while Grand Prix's outside of Europe come and go, the European Grand Prix's are ever present.

Since Formula-1's return to Europe Hamilton has barely scraped third twice and has consistently been the slowest of the four elite cars. If you need anymore evidence just look at the British GP; Hamilton started first on the grid and finished third. If that's Moon-face (Alonso) or Robotkonen (Raikkonen) starting on first, they are not coming third unless there's a miracle.

Hamilton currently has a twelve point lead in the Title chase, but if McLaren are found guilty of 'spying' on Ferrari some of those points may be docked, which is unfair to Lewis, but rules is rules. There are eight races left and five of them are in Europe, can Hamilton win any of them?
I doubt it.

I like the kid a lot and I think he's great for the sport, but this isn't his year I'm afraid, he's just too young.
