After a 150mph crash yesterday wonder-rookie Lewis Hamilton has been given the all clear to race in today's European Grand Prix.
After a 'wheel gun malfunction' left Hamilton's right front wheel incorrectly attached, his tyre blew out as he came round a corner at 150mph and he went head long into the wall. He was taken to hospital by ambulance but has sustained no serious injury and never lost consciousness.
Crashes like that are the fear moments for us fans. It's like we've been tempting fate too much by banging on about what an incredible young star this guy is and we wonder if this story of triumph is about to turn into one of tragedy. Fortunately, Formula-1 safety specs are now so high that two huge crashes this season have resulted in zero injuries for the drivers.
It's a shame that that emphasis on safety hasn't trickled down to us average Joes on the road yet. Worldwide over a million people a year die in road crashes. You have to wonder why the car manufacturers aren't willing to protect us as well as they do their race drivers.
