Michael Vick Will Be Very Popular After the Dog Fighting Scandal Ends (Seriously)

Certainly got your attention with that headline. Don't get excited though, I'm not the one saying it. No, it's someone much more important than me, like well known Syracuse University Professor Dr. Boyce Watkins. Uh, who?

Well, whatever, all you need to know is that a professor out there who is licensed to teach is telling people that Michael Vick will become even more popular for getting dogs to kill each other. Makes sense, right?

Prominent Syracuse University Professor Dr. Boyce Watkins argues that Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick will be more popular than ever after the dog fighting scandal is over. Dr. Watkins, a regular commentator on African Americans in sport on ESPN, CBS and CNN, says that the source of Vick's increased popularity will likely be the fact that many of his fans already support a barbaric sport.

"In a sport like football, the more of a 'man's man' you are, the more some people love you," says Watkins, author of 'What if George Bush were a Black Man.' "People are going to love Vick for the same reasons they loved Tyson in spite of the rape conviction and loved Babe Ruth after all the drinking and womanizing. There is an almost shocking masculinity affect involved."
Ah yes, I totally see your logic. And by "totally see your logic" I mean "what the hell are you talking about?"

I have to be honest. Tyson raping a woman didn't make me a bigger fan of his. Saying he'd eat Lennox Lewis's kids made me a bigger fan of his. And as for Babe Ruth, well, I never was a fan of his because he was a f*cking Yankee. And he also had the nerve to die about 40 years before I was born.

I just know one thing; whether Vick is more popular or not after this is all over is pretty much moot. I can't see anyone except offshore dog fighting rings offering Vick any endorsement money regardless of how popular he ultimately finds himself.
