MLB Issue of the Day: Trade Deadline = Big Letdown

by Jack Cobra, Cobra Brigade

I'm not married but I have to believe that there isn't much difference between the Wedding Night and the MLB Tradeline. Stay with me here, I'm going to try to make sense of this, it will all work out in the end, just trust me.....

These days it seems that a lot of couples like to have a self imposed sexual drought for the month, or so, before their wedding so that The Wedding Night is 'special'. Great, good for them, I guess. So, I'm guessing for the month leading up to The Wedding Night the groom is waiting with heightened anticipation to consumate the marriage in a way that only few men have done before....only to be let down because even though the drought is over, he just had sex with the same woman he's had sex with for the past two years. Maybe there was a little bit more excitement, but for the most part it was the same. Except, now when he wakes up the next morning.....she'll always be there instead of heading off to her own apartment.

The same holds true for fans of MLB around the trade deadline. We are bombarded with 'special shows' 'internet exclusives' 'insider reports', etc. during the month leading up to the trade deadline. We feel that our team just needs that one player to push us over the edge and once our team has him....We will rule the universe. The truth of the matter is that this rarely, if ever, happens. What happens is your team trades for someone to 'fill a hole' and rarely makes a blockbuster trade to push them into the post-season. Just look at the last two World Series winners....can you remember who they traded for? Geoff Blum and.....Now do you see my point?

So, while you sit around today and hit the 'refresh' button on your computer waiting for the next trade to be made keep in mind that.....tomorrow will probably be just like today. If your team isn't good enough to make the post-season today, it probably won't be good enough tomorrow.*

*The author reserves the right to change his mind if there is a huge blockbuster trade today that changes the balance of the Universe as we know it.

Not for me champ! ;)

We got married on a beach in Thailand, with 25 friends 'n' family. There a week beforehand... so...
Are we the Yankees?

Ugh... any comparisons of 'me' with the Yanks leave me feeling in need of a shower.

Oh, and welcome!
