NASCAR Driver Wants Vick in Jail - Immediately

by WCK, 100% Injury Rate

Oh man. This one I should probably leave to NOIS, but I'll take a crack at it anyway.

It's being reported in the Atlanta Journal Constitution today that NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, who is a serious animal rights activist and has his own foundation, has some choice words for Vick.

"I just wish they'd put him in jail and be done with it."

"Just put him in prison and tell the general public, just give them all the details of what they do with those dogs," Biffle said. "How they steal people's dogs out of their front yards and use them for bait dogs and let other dogs kill them. There's all the horrifying stories. You look at all the pictures on the Internet of the dogs, just maimed, mangled. It's horrible."

Now I understand Biffle, being an animal rights activist, is pretty peeved at Vick. And I also realize we could get into a debate about red state NASCAR versus black athletes. But we shouldn't.

Biffle is just speaking based on what is his great affection for animals. And I'd have to think most NASCAR fans don't take anywhere near the stance Biffle does on animals. I applaud him for his dedicated work.

But...that doesn't make what Biffle said right.

Even though Vick is really in a tight corner, and it doesn't look good, and he's making our lives as bloggers ridiculously easy, we should remember that in the eyes of the law he's still innocent. Our bigger concern here should be that Vick has already been tried in the court of public opinion. And he's been crushed.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, that isn't right. If any us were on trial we would hope people would reserve judgment about us until the verdict. After all, that's technically how it's supposed to work.
