Shih Tzu Rescuers Talk About Vick

by , ShakedownSports

It seems that everybody in the world wants to chime in with their thoughts on the Michael Vick situation. Unfortunately, many of these people are stupid, boring, and don’t know the first thing about blindly hurling invective at a superstar athlete.

The good news is that some of them, such as dog show fanatics (the only people crazier than PETA protesters), are worth hearing, and thanks to the Houston Chronicle we now know exactly how the people at the 30th annual Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows feel about Vick.

Take Susan Broom for example. She's been a dog trainer for 36 years and she feels that if Vick is convicted he should be treated “like it was second degree murder.” When she says her dogs are like her children, she means it.

“I could not have been more devastated if I'd been told he was involved in trafficking in young children," she said. "No, I'm not nuts. I'm able to differentiate between humans and animals, but I still equate the two. I really see no difference. If you would electrocute a dog (one of the allegations against Vick), what would stop you from beating a child?"
It sure is a good thing she’s not nuts. She definitely doesn't sound like the kind of person who cooks her dog filet mignon and buys it birthday cards.

Also chiming in was Delbert Thacker, a show judge who also teaches public schools in Wisconsin. He says that students routinely tell him they have been to dog fights.
"I find the whole thing disgusting when they talk about it, and I don't allow them to be happy when they do. I give them my opinion and it's pretty strong. I say, 'OK, let's take you and put you in that ring.'
Hmm...another dog show participant with some some sort of child fighting competition on their mind. That's an interesting coincidence.

Finally there's Chris Tucker, a longtime dog trainer who had Andre Ware rub his butt 500 times a week when Tucker played center for the University of Houston football team. Tucker found Vick’s actions troubling because his dog’s breed is a first cousin of the dogs Vick was fighting. In the end, Tucker still can't figure the whole thing out.
"I don't know what happened to the guy," Tucker said. "Maybe he wasn't in the limelight long enough at Virginia Tech for us to see his true character before he got to the NFL."
Someday we will know the true character of Michael Vick---most likely once his cell-mate, T-Bone, shares it with us. Anyway, the point of this post is to inform you that the dog show loonies have chimed in and we finally know everything important there is to know about the Michael Vick situation.
