Throwing Knives: Ookie and Betting

by BD, Sports Show On Mute

Well it's Tuesday and a not a whole heck of a lot went on yesterday. Outside of the whole Vick stay away letter that I'll touch on. This fine female to the right is Emily Scott. While I'm far to lazy to find out exactly who she is. She's definitely not hurting these eyes. This whole College Gameday Crew on Mike and Mike thing really isn't working for me. Herbstreet isn't very good with anything not related to College Football. Though M&M themselves aren't anything too spectacular either. But, their nothing else on at this time of the morning as far as sports go so ESPN2 will have to do.

Top Story 1: Goodell tells Vick to Stay Away
Yesterday, Roger Goodell sent Mr. Ookie a letter asking telling him to stay away from Falcons training camp while his case is reviewed. and Goodell decides whether or not Vick has violated the Code of Conduct policy. While I'm unsure exactly where dogfighting would fall in this policy. I would imagine the league is gearing up to suspend Vick amidst pressure from PETA, among others, outside of the league. I personally feel Vick should be suspended, many argue in favor of Vick citing the Duke Lacrosse case. In which those particular gentlemen did absolutely nothing wrong. Yet, were crucified in the public by bigots (that's you Sharpton), and general media, because a certain prosecutor wanted to win reelection. How did that work out for you Mike? In the case of Vick, their are witness's, a lack of the gung ho prosecutor, and the surprising absence of Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. None of which are a good sign for Vick. He could still escape with his celebrity. It's looking more and more like Vick has no shot to win his case, the biggest question is jail time. Will he plea out and avoid serving any? I, for one, hope not.

Top Story 2: David Stern Will Speak Today
I'm very interested to hear what Stern has to say and how exactly he's going to spin this thing. He's got to be praying Donaghy is the one and only ref involved. Let alone players, if any of them are involved, whether it a Dwayne Wade caliber guy or someone a little more in Luke Walton's realm. It would be an even bigger blow to the league and be about as impossible to spin as any sports story I can ever remember. Critical Fanatic tosses out a few questions he'd like to ask the NBA commissioner. I pray he answer all of these. Or better yet, they're at least asked.

I'd to Sucker Punch Brady Quinn
Sure, they're are a pile of reason's I'd like to give Brady the 'ole five knuckle shuffle. But, todays reason occurred over the weekend. When Quinn charged people $75 for his autograph at a Cleveland mall. Those who waited in line for hours to get the noddle armed QB's john hancock were outraged he was charging. As I would be as well. But then again, I wouldn't wait hours for an autograph, and if I did it sure as hell wouldn't be Quinn's. If I had to pick an athlete I would wait for, it would probably be Ken Griffey Jr, and that's about it. If you had to wait for one autograph, no charge of course, who would it be?

Good News, the Yankees should start Losing Again Soon
Call it a hunch if you must, but the Yanks aren't going to play this well for long. They've dropped 54 runs in their last four games, 21 of them against Tampa on Sunday. Which means that offense has gotten hot. Unfortunately, this abundance of runs can only mean one thing. A letdown is coming, a fall back to earth stretch if you will. I'm not saying it's going to happen against the Royals but it could. The Royals have been hot recently, esspecially at the plate and I wouldn't be shocked if they followed up the series win over Detroit with another one against the Yanks. The best part about the Yankees wining though, has got to be that the Sox are too. So, we may all get what were hoping for. A Yankee free post season.

Twice As Irrelevant?
Clever headline's just are not my thing, are they? Anyhow, Jamie Mottram has teamed up with his brother Chris and put together a whole new site design. Their doing their thing together from now on, over at MisterIrrelevant.com, I'd advise checking it out. As soon as your done here, of course.

Movies
So I didn't get to see Chuck and Larry as I'd hoped yesterday. I did, however, get to check out Live Free or Die Hard and The Hills Have Eyes 2.

Live Free or Die Hard was a solid flick, decent action and definitely some impressive moves from detective McClane. The addition of Justin Long was a welcomed one as Bruce's sidekick. His mildly amusing commentary lightened things up in an otherwise terror stricken world. Maggie Q looked fantastic, and Gabriel was a decent villain. I'd recommend giving this a shot if your a n action fan at all.
Rating: 7/10

Hills Have Eyes 2 wasn't worth the time I spent watching it. While it wasn't the worst Horror movie I've ever seen it was certainly in the ballpark. Their really wasn't much of a plot, and it was far to easy to predict who would die next and who would live. Predictability is always a big no-no for me in horror flicks. Jessica Stroup and and Daniella Alonso weren't to bad to look at, Stroup especially but their looks alone couldn't help this flick. I'd pass if you haven't seen it.
