Throwing Knives: Skip Prosser R.I.P.

by BD, Sports Show On Mute

Here we go with the new Friday format, in which you get the headlines, links, and the scoreboard. I've got to say I'm surprised it's taken me this long to get to Adriana Lima. She rivals Gisele at the top of the model food chain. If I'm picking it's Lima all day but I'd certainly love to knock 'em both out. It was a sad and interesting sports day yesterday. You should know what was sad. If not, that's what I'm here for, right? (If your interested in a link, e-mail me here.)

Top Story: Skip Prosser Passes Away
Yesterday afternoon Wake Forest's mens basketball coach Skip Prosser passed away of an apparent heart attack. He was found on his office couch not long after he returned from his afternoon jog. Prosser coached at both Xavier and Loyala (Md.) as well as Wake. Prosser coached teams reached the post season in 12 of his 14 season on the bench. He held a career record of 291-146, and coached current New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul (WF) and David West (Xav). While I'm not much of an ACC basketball fan and I don't know a whole lot about Prosser. You can hear the impact he had on many lives throughout the coaching world, as his peers speak fondly of him. The most common sentiment among them seemed to be Prosser's love of teaching, rather than coaching. While he loved to win, it was seeing the growth in his players that made it worth it for him. Surely, Skip Prosser will be missed.

The Bonds Vs. Costas Feud
Of all the people to feud with Barry, Bob Costas? Your head weighs more than he does, for god 's sake. Does calling him a midget really make you feel good about yourself? That's a stupid question, of course it does. But, it got better after the midget comment as Costas fired back with this: "As anyone can plainly see, I'm 5-6 1/2 and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally." Look at Bobby, firing back at the backne covered Bonds. The Anti-Hero was not to be outdone, however, when asked about the "All-Natural" comment had this: "How do you know?" Are you kidding Barry? That's all you got? Even pulling out the old "Who is that again?" would have been been better than that. Costas is in the lead so far, and I'd expect him to stay there. As Bonds posses the wit of a 12-year old bully on the playground.

Vick Has His Day In Court
When Ookie's courtroom drawings were popping up all over TV last night I found myself imagining how it actually went. When he took his oath that is. "No Mike, your right hand, that's your left." Was more or less what I kept thinking. My brother thinks that's from a Movie, but neither of us could place it.

Vick as expected, plead not guilty and was released without bond. I wasn't sure why they chose not to set a bond. Maybe because they know he'll pay it. He's certainly a threat to run, as we've all seen him on the field. I'm more or less annoyed with this story at this point, however. So, it'll be getting as little pub as humanly possible. If I can help it.

Countdown To The Weekend
Here are 10 links to help you waste away the work day, in preparation for that "Nice little Saturday" you have planned.

10. Way to go WWL, misspell the dead guy's name. (Between The Lines)

9. Surprisingly, the YMCA is not on Joey Harrington's iPod. I'd have thought he'd be in to firemen. (The Ghosts Of Wayne Fontes)

8. I'd say Florida is under-ranked, other than that, SC's Cheerleader rankings look good. Very good. (The Sports Culture)

7. I wish I watched this show, but I'll definitely watch Mary-Louis Parker back that thing up. NSFW (Blog Of Hilarity)

6. Would you do Ice? I gave her the thumbs up after looking at the other female Gladiators. The only real concern is the possibility of a two-way joust. (The Big Picture)

5. This 'Who's Schrute?" contest is fantastic. I'd vote Paige for Schrute but I think Bayless deserves the crown for his douchebaggery. Round 1, Part 1, and 2. (Blumpkins For All)

4. The Bench Warmer's decided to rank the top 6 athletes turned actors. I'm inclined to agree with #1. (The Bench Warmer's)

3. Sarah thinks women are ruining sports. I couldn't agree more if I tried. (Strike Zones and End Zones)

2. Canseco seems to be hinting that A-Rod juiced. I'm not buyin' it, it's a ploy to sell books. (Steroid Nation)

1. Is Curtis Martin a hall of famer? (Pacifist Viking)
