It's Monday again folks, which means I'm back to actually writing things when I get home from work in the morning. And you're likely back to sitting at your desk, in your nice little cubicle, wishing you could get a promotion for not caring about your job. Being as it is Monday and you're feeling lazy, I've decided, much like I do every weekday to recap this past weekend's events. Along with the top 5 at the box office and Entourage which was, for the most part, stellar last night. The female at right is Danielle Lloyd. Enjoy her, I know I am.
The Pac-10 (and Big Ten for that matter) Have No Interest in a +1 (The Sporting News via Deadspin)
While I understand that money drives all interest for the universities involved in the BCS. It's my opinion that a true champion needs to be crowned every season. Generally, the champion is surrounded by a cloud of "Would they beat?" insert team here. Which is what makes College Football so frustrating. In any given season your team can go undefeated and still fail to make the championship game. It's ruining College Football for the hardcore fans, yet nothing will change anytime soon as us fans won't be walking away whether a playoff or plus one system is implemented.
The Pac-10 and Big Ten are more interested in the revenue they make off the Rose Bowl then ever giving their team the chance to prove themselves on the biggest stage in College sports. Thus robbing the athletes of everything they've worked for. While I'd love to say "to hell with both conferences" its just not realistic to dismiss perennial contenders like USC, OSU and Michigan from the conversation before the season even starts.
But, what if the other three conferences (SEC, Big East and Big 12) were to throw the other two the finger and go on with the possibility of a plus one. Both conferences would surely take recruiting hits. As the players are there to win championships. Why play at a school if you know that's not a possibility? And the highest you can get is a conference championship to go along with a win over the other conference. I'd surely be looking elsewhere if I was looking for a place to play football. The two conferences would also take revenue hits as well. No one outside of the hardcore fans of said teams are going to be all gung-ho over a Rose Bowl win.
That said, the other conferences will not go forward and we can only hope that one day some kind of step is taken in the right direction when it comes to crowing a champion. Odds are that's years, if not decades away. Just more proof that money rules the world. Whether we like it or not.
Pacman Jones to TNA Wrestling?
While it doesn't appear he'll be wrestling. It seems Pacman will be appearing on-screen alongside wrestlers for TNA. Let me just say, if he does wrestle then his career may be even closer to over. Injuries are a major concern and I'm sure the Titans wouldn't be to happy if he sustained a major injury, whether he's playing this season or not.
NFL 1st Rounders Are Starting To Sign
Most notably Adrian Peterson the #7 overall pick. I still like Calvin Johnson on the offensive side of the ball but I think Adrian is going to be good in Minnesota slitting carries with Chester Taylor. Can't help but wonder how well AP will hold up in the NFL after injury problems plagued what should have been a Heisman winning College career.
KG To Boston Again?
The deal would send KG to Boston for Theo Ratliff (expiring contract), AL Jefferson and probably Gerald Green as well. I've also seen Sebastian Telfairs name mentioned as a throw in. Apparently, KG is considering heading for Bean town all of a sudden and I have a good idea why. His name is Ray Allen and he's been a Celtic for what seems like a week. With Paul Pierce, KG, Ray and whatever young players they toss around them Boston is immediately a top2-3 team in the Eastern Conference. Maybe, even the best. You've got to figure with KG drawing double team's and Ray knocking down anything close to an open shot they'd be good. With Pierce also on board they'll be very good. They're still not winning the title. Well, not unless those other two guys who play are way better than you'd expect. Given the money Boston will have sunk into the three aforementioned guys. The interesting thing about those three? None of them have ever won anything. Not a Finals trip among them. Together though? They could get there. But, will they be able to topple any of the Western Conference giants? The giants are of course San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix, and possibly Houston, Golden State or Denver.
For Minnesota I like this deal a lot as well. If Jefferson develops into the player many think he will that is. He alongside Randy Foye, Corey Brewer and Gerald Green could make for an exciting team heading into the future.
Weekend Box Office Top 5
1. The Simpsons Movie
2. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
4. Hairspray
5. No Reservations
Still haven't managed to see Chuck and Larry and I didn't get to catch the Simpsons, either. I might see C&L tonight though and if I do, you'll be hearing about it tomorrow.
Television *Spoilers*
Entourage: One of the better episodes of the season last night as the whole Turtle-furry bit was hilarious. Ari finally gets his kid into the damn private school for helping out a "special friend" of the headmaster. I think we can all guess who that "special friend" is. E finally becoming a man was amusing as well and I thought the episode ran through the bet storyline quite well. How hot were those British chick by the way? The best part was easily the closing shot of Drama in the costume hitting that furry girl from the back.
