Tiger Blog: 3rd Round

Yes, I'm back for yet another live blog of the Open Championship...I know, I know...I can't believe it either...I'm going to try to go the distance with El Tigre's round today, but I'm not making any promises...This shindig will be getting underway momentarily...So be patient, and prepare to leave many...many...many comments...I'm going to need your help in order to see this thing out...SO BE FUNNY DAMMIT!



7:15 AM: And here we go...Tiger tees off on the opening hole...Great shot down the middle of the fairway...I'd say that was a tad better than yesterday...Eh?

7:18 I'm going to do this as long as I can push myself to, but I'm not going to try and predict how long will be...

7:20 That was amazing...This guy, I didn't see who it was, hit his shot to the right of the green, it bounced off a fence, bounded across the green, was headed OB, hit the OB stake and kicked back into a good position...That was the biggest case of luck I think I've ever seen...

7:21 Good second shot by Tiger...Today is definitely starting better than yesterday at least...

7:29 Tiger just missed the fairway off the tee on number 2, but it was still a good show...I'm really starting to feel a lot better about Tiger's round...

7:33 That was terrible acting...If you didn't see it I don't know how to explain it...Old guy in a boat, hitting a shot from a patch of grass he laid in the boat, a kid picking his ball up, and the guy yelling at him...TERRIBLE acting...

7:35 Tiger's got a long birdie putt coming up, but at least he's putting...His playing partner, Marcus Brier (I think I'm spelling it right), is touted as the most famous Austrian golfer...Is that really saying all that much? Really? That's like saying so and so is the most famous American Sherpa...

7:43 Tiger just missed a 3 freakin' foot par putt...How in the hell? Then he hits the come backer for bogey...Well, so much for my bright outlook on the day...

7:48 Pretty decent tee shot from Tiger...He still needs to straighten it out...

7:52 Hit it Tiger...Great putt...Just left it a little short...Par...1-over through 3 on the day, and 2-over for the tourney...

7:58 He just can't keep his tee shots on line...I'm am ashamed to say...I'm kinda worried...

8:01 Well, his second shot is on the green...That's about all I can say about that one...I think I should have just slept in...

8:07 THAT is why I woke up early...Tiger just nailed a ridiculously long putt for birdie...

8:08 Then he follows up that amazing putt with a drive down the middle of the fairway on number 5...I don't want to jinx it, so knock on wood, maybe he's hitting his stride...Let's hope so...

8:13 Great second shot by Tiger, and of course he didn't like...Man, I wish I could knock the ball to 10-15 feet and be disappointed...Great shot...We may see another birdie...I'm starting to get excited...Keep knocking on that wood...

8:17 Boo Weekley gives the best interviews in the history of interviews...Not just golf, not just sports, INTERVIEWS...I love this guy...I will be following him a lot more closely from now on...

8:18 UH OH! UH OH! Tiger is on now...Another birdie...Back to even, 1-under on the round...I don't care if your knuckles are bleeding keep knocking on that wood...No jinxes going on here today...

8:23 Great drive by Tiger on the par 5 6th...It's official...I need a cold shower...

8:28 Did you stop knocking on wood? Because that shot was terrible...At least it's a par 5...He can still get birdie...



8:31 Tiger hit a little old lady in the gallery with that last shot, but he apologized...He told her I didn't mean to hit it over here, and he asked her if he was ok...He's a nice guy...How can you not like him?

8:35 He barely missed the birdie putt....I just had a power surge, and now my TV is messing up...Well...I can't say I was expecting technical difficulties...

8:39 I'm not sure what the deal is...It's only on TNT, and it's on every TV in my house...Even the ones that were turned off...At least the Open will be switching to ABC in 20 minutes...

8:42 Well...I can't have the volume up on my TV due to a loud noise that TNT is making...So this is the end of the live blog until ABC picks it up at 9...I'm not sure how long I'll keep it up when it moves over there...It is a Saturday after all...But I'll be back in about 17 mins...At least for a bit...

8:47 I know I said I was through until 9, but I just figured I would update you...Tiger just made another long birdie putt...He's now 2-under on the day, 1-under on the tournament, 5 strokes back from Sergio at the top of the leaderboard...Ok, barring another birdie, I'm done 'til 9...

9:11 Tiger made par on 9...He's starting his back 9 now, and since it is Saturday, and I don't seem to have anyone following along, it's quittin' time...Time to actually enjoy watching the Open...If anything big happens I'll update it, but no regular commentary for the rest of the day...If someone is following along then let me know in the comments...

9:45 Well, I'm back...Since I know that I'm not all alone, I might as well keep it going...Tiger is currently at even par, 1-under on the day after a bogey at 10...He parred 11...



9:48 Tiger is starting to disappoint me...I guess I spoke too soon...He's definitely still in it...He's just really frustrating me...

9:50 I put this on SoSM this morning, but what the heck, why not share it with everyone...If you've seen this already you won't mind seeing it again...If you've never seen it, you have been deprived...

10:02 Tiger just hit a drive that ended up in Ireland...I don't think anyone knew where that ball was going...Come on Elin...You can't keep him up all night phone sexin' him up...Just call me...I'll come right over...Tiger plays better, you get what you need...We all come out winners...

10:05 I'm not really sure where his second shot ended up...It never showed it landing...The crowd halfway cheered...Maybe it was decent...I hope...I'll be right back, Elin's calling...

10:09 The Surge saved par...I guess he's not choking...Yet...

10:12 Tiger just missed a chip in eagle by a foot at most...So that's a birdie...2-under on the day, 1-under on the tourney, 6 back of Surge...

10:16 Great drive by Tiger on the par 4 15th...Left to right wind, he just cut it back into it, and landed it in the middle...A thing of beauty...

10:21 After that beautiful drive, Tiger wasted it with a terrible 7-iron shot...He blocked it out right into the rough...Rough...That's how Elin likes it...

10:24 And he (Tiger) saves par again...The Surge needs to slip up somewhere...



10:28 Tiger leaves another one out right...This time it was his drive on 16...At least Elin's performing for me...

10:33 Tiger just missed holing out for birdie...He's got an inch left for par...So I'll concede it to him...He now stands 2-under on the day, 1-under on the tournament, still 6 back of Sergio...Eldrick has two holes to go...How about one more bird Tiger? For me?

10:38 Steve Stricker is 7-under on the day, and has crept to within one of the lead at 6-under par...7-under...That's ridiculous...He birdied his first 3 holes...Then finished the front nine 5-under on the day, and has made 2 more birdies on the back nine...That has to be the round of the tournament, and he's not even done yet...

10:41 Tiger is in the middle of the green on 17...Come on birdie...

10:49 Another par for Tiger...Now only 18 left...How about a strong finish...Birdie...Come on...

10:51 Stricker looked like he was going to bogey, and ruin the perfect round, but he made an amazing save...This has to be the round of the tournament...

10:52 Annnnnnd of course Tiger missed the fairway with his tee shot...He'll have to lay up...No birdie...Dammit...Dammit to Hell...

10:56 Good lay-up...Then a great shot to within about 3 feet...

11:01 Tiger made his par...He finished his round 1-under on the tournament, 2-under on the day...He's still 6 back of Sergio at 7-under...If Sergio drop a shot or two Tiger will be right in the mix for tomorrow's final round...
