So the word on the street is that A-Rod may have already hit his 500th home run, thanks to a suspended game and a pre-existing stat rule in the Big Book of Baseball Rules. (It's not really called that. At least I don't think so). When the Yankees/Baltimore game on June 28th fell victim to rain at the top of the eighth it was re-scheduled for today. The rules state that if a game is suspended, any stats that come from the game are credited to the original game date. Which means if A-Rod hits a home run in the completion of the suspended game it will adjust the numbers from the 28 th and make his homer from Wednesday his 500th.
So basically, A-Rod and the Yankees will set the Flux Capacitor to June 28th, 2007, jump in the Delorean, finish the game, say good-bye to Doc Brown and travel back to today for the regularly scheduled programming. And we may or may not have missed the 500th celebration.
Somewhere, Bud Selig has put a research team together to figure out how this can apply to Barry Bonds.
