I was going to let the fact that the pre-race favorite to win the Tour de France had tested positive for blood doping yesterday slide ... but then another guy failed today right after World Cycling Head Pat McQuaid got through saying how cycling 'has drugs under control'.
I'm a little surprised that riders will still juice up considering how many of them get caught each year but I guess the fact that so many other guys are doing it is pretty big draw.
What, I wonder, goes thorugh the head of a rider just before he hits that juice pipe? Does he think 'Ahh those other guys were idiots, I'll never get caught!'? or maybe it's something more subtle like 'Well all I'm doing is drawing out half my blood supply and storing it for later. They'll probably just overlook me.'?
Either way this 'new era' in cycling has seen the race leader accused of missing tests, the race favortie testing negative and two whole teams being pulled from the race by their sponsors due to one of their riders failing a test. I guess, a bit like Big Bad Bonds, no matter how entertaining the results can be, the fact that they're tarnished just ruins the whole damned event.
