Captain, My Captain

by WCT, Wasting Company Time

Quick note, courtesy of Larry Brown Sports: Apparently being the four year starting quarterback and on the brink of owning all your school's passing records doesn't mean what it used to mean.

The University of Michigan announced its tri-captains for the 2007 football season this week: RB Michael Hart, OT Jake Long, and LB Shawn Crable. Conspicuously absent? QB Chad Henne. Larry thinks Henne wasn't elected because he can't beat Ohio State (which isn't fair, since Hart has never beaten OSU either), the Michigan blogs think it's because its not his personality to be a vocal leader.

I personally think it means nothing (besides being kind of funny) until Henne starts getting evaluated by NFL teams next spring. Would you want him leading your NFL team if he does not even have the respect of his teammates to be elected one of the three best leaders on the team?

Chad Henne is about as popular in the Michigan locker room as Brutus the Buckeye. Oddly, that may be his only redeeming quality.

I can see the tie, you'd think that a four year starter at arguably the game's most important position, would be a captain. Maybe Henne really is that quiet. I don't think it's because he can't beat OSU, because if that were the case, no one should be a captain.
