College Football Players Do Not Respect Your Blogging Ability

by Kyle Smith, Doberman on the Diamond

You and your blog think you're so great, eh? Well, the world of college football student-athletes has something to say about that. Namely, um, that you suck.

In a survey conducted by SI.com, college football players were asked a series of mostly lame questions, like "Who's going to win the Heisman?" Then, question number 8 came up, and it was this:

8. Do you read message boards or blogs where fans discuss your team?

The response came out that 39.5% said they did, while 60.5% said they did not. But the ones who did? Well, they hate you and your damn blog, and you're an idiot:

"I read it if I want to have a good laugh," said one Big 12 player. "Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they're showing their opinions, but at the end of the day, they don't know what's going on." ... Most players who responded "no" said the people who write on message boards or blogs do not know what they're talking about. Said one MAC player: "My grandma could guess the same thing."

So, ha! Bloggers are all dopes. Only intellectuals like those who play college football really know what is going on. I mean, do you know how hard it is to major in P.E. or psychology? 'Nuff said.

I would venture a guess most college athletes' opinions of blogs and bulletin boards are derived from the official bulletin boards of their respective schools. These bulletin boards are chock full of panicky boosters and other alumni who cling to every conspiracy and decision like their lives depended on it. These are the people that are already watching HS sophomores to see who will help their college. For a good college blogger check out Myron Rolle of FSU. Yeah, I am a homer, but he could be the Gilbert Arenas of college football.
