Lackey Makes Mariners Sick....While Sick

by Jack Cobra, Cobra Brigade

John Lackey has been making hitters feel sick all season long with his filthy assortment of pitches and he did it again last night....only this time he was the one that was sick.

Pitching with what might be strep throat, Lackey threw a complete game shutout against the Seattle Mariners while extending his scoreless innings streak against the Mariners to 24 innings this season. Lackey is now 16-8 on the season with a 3.18 ERA and if the Angels hold on and win the AL West (they are up 3 games) he has to be a candidate for the AL Cy Young Award.

Lackey was coming off of two consecutive losses and the Angels needed this game to make a statement to the Mariners who are coming on hard in the AL West. With the Angels history of fading like Britney Spears' career as they come down the stretch, it was important for Lackey to throw out a quality start....or at least get the ball to the vaunted Angels bullpen with a lead. He did more than that as he game a super-human effort on a night when most people would have stayed in bed or called in sick.
