NL Central Rundown

by Jack Cobra, Cobra Brigade

There wasn't much happening in MLB last night so instead of just putting up a picture of a half naked girl and allowing you to oogle at her, I decided to write up a quick rundown of the National League Central Division. You know, in case you've been busy this Summer and haven't been able to keep track of it yourself.

Since I am a Cubs fan since birth, the NL Central is the division I watch most frequently. Some years it is a great thing because of the talent that comes through the division.....some years it is as frustrating to watch as a T-Ball game. This is one of those years....Onto the rundown.

Milwaukee Brewers - 60-55 - The Brew Crew got off to a hot start this season and have since been pretty mediocre. They do have a group of impressive youngsters led by Ryan Braun, but they have let large lead in the division slip away like an ice cream cone melting away during the Summer.

Chicago Cubs - 58-55 - The Cubs were horrendous to start the season as they seemingly used a different lineup every day with new manager Lou Piniella taking control of the team. Next thing you know their pitcher is fighting with the catcher and the manager is fighting with umpires. Presto, magico! They had been on fire the last two months and have nearly caught up with the Brewers.

St. Louis Cardinals - 52-59 - How the mighty have fallen. In the past it seemed like every fringe veteran the Cards had would cause a headache for the opposition, but this season not even that is happening. The 'stars' aren't producing like they normally do either and the Cards have struggled like a one legged man trying to climb a flight of stairs.

Houston Astros - 51-63 - It's hard to compete in baseball when your pitching staff isn't very good and that is what is wrong with the Astros. They have Roy Oswalt, but outside of that....pffft.

Cincinnati Reds - 49-64 - It's like the owners/general manager doesn't quite understand how to put a good ballclub together. They have a lot of pieces....but none of them fit together. This is a club that constantly underachieves.

Pittsburgh Pirates - 45-65 - It would be easy to say the Bucco's are underachieving, but they just aren't that good to begin with. I more about baseball than most and I couldn't name you eight players on this putrid team. They are bad now and they are going to be bad for a long time.

So there you have it. A quick rundown of the NL Central before Bud Selig decides to implode it and just let another NL East team make the playoffs.
