Novak Djokovic. For some of us, that name brings many images and feelings to the surfaces. Some are so raw and powerful that we dare not speak his name lest we set our heart aflutter. For most of us, the only thought that comes to mind when we hear that name is, who? Don’t worry, you will know this man’s name very soon, if you have even a casual interest in Tennis, which you should because Ana Ivanovic, plays tennis, and she is a fine piece.
In any event, Djokovic won the Montreal Masters last weekend. Not impressed? Well you should be, because this guy beat #1 player in the world Roger Federer in the Final after beating #2 player in the world Rafeal Nadal in the semifinals. Anyone who beats the Swiss time piece that is Federer and the Spanish metro sexual/eurotrash/Capri pant wearing clown that is Nadal in one tournament is good in my book.
Could it be that Djokovic is making a run at the class of men’s tennis? It is certainly about time that someone did. For the better part of three years, Men’s Tennis Grand Slams have boiled down to Federer and Nadal. Of the last 15 grand slams played, 10 have been won by Federer and three have been won by Nadal. Federer is clearly the class of men’s tennis, but Nadal was probably the only player actually nipping at his heels. That is until, Novak Djokovic came along.
Will Novak ascend into the stratosphere and actually challenge Federer and Nadal? Obviously that remains to be seen, but his Canadian masters victory, and two semi-finals appearances at Wimbeldon and the French Open, should quash any lingering doubts that he can’t play with the best in the world. This video of Novak singing “I Will Survive” should have a similar effect:
