The Pirates Get Saved By Religion

by Eric Horowitz, ShakedownSports

The basement dwelling Pittsburgh Pirates are constantly dealing with the wrath of disgruntled fans and players, but if Salomon Torres has his way the team will soon have to deal with the wrath of god. Torres has a decided to drop his grievance against the team, but only because he’s a devout Jehovah’s Witness and his religion doesn’t permit him to seek justice. That task will fall to god.

"It is not up to me, as a Christian, to seek justice on my own. It is up to God to handle the situation, and I will let Him do that for me," Torres said. "After a long talk with myself, I've decided this is the right path to take."
Torres’ filed the grievance because he believes GM Dave Littlefield misled him during last season’s contract negotiations. Torres claims he signed for below market value because Littlefield led him to believe the Pirates would rent one of his baseball academies in the Dominican Republic. The team never ended up renting the academy.

The good news for the Pirates is that Torres’ religion has now saved them from having to deal with the issue any further. The bad new is that at 48-66, the Pirates probably need god to be on their side.
