Quasi-Bold College Football Prediction of the Day

by WCT, Wasting Company Time

If you are familiar with Baseball Tonight you know that they begin every season by asking the analysts for "bold predictions." Now this usually degenerates into them spouting off things like "the Yankees will win 140 games" and other nonsense that will almost assuredly not come true. Well, I have decided to bring that same sort of boldness to EC, but keep it out of the realm of the totally ridiculous. So with that, here is the first of my quasi-bold predictions for the 2007 College Football season. Feel free to contribute with your own in the comments, but remember, keep them quasi-bold people.

Kentucky will be good (not top 10 good, but top 25 good)

Want to sound really smart? Ask your friends who led the SEC in TD passes last year, laugh at them as all of them guess either JaMarcus Russell or Chris Leak, then wryly tell them it was Andre' Woodson of Kentucky.

Unless you live in Lexington, you probably didn't notice that Kentucky had a pretty good season last year, winning eight games including a bowl win over Clemson. The only conference losses for this team were a nail-biter to South Carolina, and losses to the division powerhouses (Florida, LSU, and Tennessee). Its tough to say that they are ready to compete for the SEC crown, especially playing the SEC East, but I think they give Louisville all they can handle on September 15th (take the over in that game!), and beat at least one of the big three, as they play all of them at home this year. The problem with this team is that their schedule is so tough that they could be much improved and only win 8 games again. But I think that if their defense can improve, and they are healthier at running back than last year, this team can definitely take another step forward, and find themselves ranked at the end of the year. With Woodson, and 14 other starters back, along with a coach on the hot seat, I could see Kentucky winning 9 or 10 games including another bowl.

WCT might want to stick to his day job, because this prediction makes about as much sense at tits on a bull. Yes, andre woodson is the TROOF, but Kentucka's swiss cheese defense will cancel out all that promise on the offensive side of the ball. Also the coaches will be overmatched every SEC game which spells another year in the middle of the pack in the SEC. The only difference will be the hype!

My prediction: 6 wins, two LESS than last year. The big boys won't be overlooking Kentucka this year, especially if they're reading blog entries like this one. After 2 patsies in E. Kentucky and kent st, they'll face brian brohm led louisville in a shootout. Brohm will be the most talented guy on the field, and 6 TD's later, Kentucka's secondary won't know whether the football he's throwing past thier ears is regulation or Nerf! Arkansas and Darren McFadden will get the job done at home too.

Upset special: They'll get the job done against one of these two teams: @Georgia (Stafford is green) or in their last home game against the Vols. Other than that, they'll beat up on SEC cellar dwellers and call it a season at 6-6. Stick to basketball Kentucka!
