It's not everyday that you hear that your favorite athlete of all time is pondering coming out of retirement to play for arguably the most storied franchise in sports, alongside stars like K.G., Paul Pierce and Jesus Shuttlesworth.
Today was that day for me. And you can call me Mick Jagger, because I definitely have mixed emotions about Reggie Miller potentially playing for the Boston Celtics.
On one hand, I bleed Blue and Gold. The Indiana Pacers have been my favorite team since the franchise drafted Reggie back in 1987. I've always said that it would sicken me to see Reggie wear another jersey, and I was extremely proud that he retired a Pacer.
On the other hand, the Pacers are an absolute effin' disaster right now after missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade. Reggie gave the franchise all he could, and I don't blame him for bowing out before Jamaal 'Sick Boy" Tinsley, Stephen "Shoot 'Em Up" Jackson and Ron "Tru Warier" Artest obliterated any chance of a championship run. I blame him even less for not wanting to come back to a team with 13 big men, a backcourt of Marquis "Stephen Jackson Lite" Daniels and Tinsley, a piss-poor image and lottery written all over it.
Meanwhile, the Celtics also intrigue me.
First off, the C's are my best friend's squad. We've always talked about the possibility of Pierce and Jermaine O'Neal playing together, but never this. I love the thought of Reggie playing Bill Walton circa 1986, and us celebrating a championship over a bottle of Dom.
Reggie is also a throwback, so he would look pretty damn good in those classic green unis. In fact, I'm ordering my No. 31 Celtics jersey the minute this becomes official.
Also, since the Celtics have blown recently and Reggie still had a lot left in the tank when he retired, he wouldn't be a Mitch Richmondesque coattail rider. Eddie House, Eddie Schmouse -- Reggie would be the first guy off the bench, and would help keep Pierce and Ray Allen fresh for the playoffs. He would also give the C's another clutch shooter, alleviating pressure from Pierce.
Another one of my favorite aspects of this potential signing is how Bill Simmons would react. The Sports Guy has always underrated Reggie. Actually, to quote Goodfellas, he's treated him like "half-a-fagot." It would be poetic justice if it was Reggie who put Simmons' favorite squad over the top and helped bring a title back to Beantown.
We'll see if this actually happens, but I think all of us Pacers fans are cool with it. As far as Celtics fans go, they'd have to be out of their minds not to want Reggie. I honestly believe the 15-20 quality minutes he could provide a night would make the Celtics the favorites to win the East and a legitimate title contender. He might look like a Ferengi, but as a Celtic he would be more like Dr. Spock -- invaluable, wise and clutch.

The Celtics are definitely my pick to win the NBA title. I also totally think Gladiator's going home with the Oscar for Best Picture unless Erin Brockovich gets too much of the chick vote.
Reggie Miller would've played a much better Gladiator than Russell Crowe
