Last week JA told you about Northern Colorado psycho punter Mitch Cozad and his ongoing trial for allegedly stabbing his own teammate in the leg. I've been over this story a couple of times over at my site, so I really felt the need to jump all over this again now that the verdict has been brought down.
Cozad was found guilty of second degree assault and how has to wait 'till October to hear his sentence.
A jury agreed, convicting Cozad of second-degree assault Thursday. But he was acquitted of the more serious charge of attempted first-degree murder.
The 22-year-old from Wheatland, Wyo., now faces up to 16 years in a Colorado prison for the attack on starting punter Rafael Mendoza.
Well, on the one hand you had Cozad's attorney pinning the crime on some guy that was living in the same dorm as him and also saying the the dude used Cozad's car to get away. On the other hand Cozad was portrayed as a mamma's boy that was "pouty" when Rafael Mendoza beat him out for the job and also that he was stalking Mendoza a few days before the attack.
The jury obviously sided with the "pouty mamma's boy stalker" angle and as a result, Mitch's shower time is about to get very awkward for the next decade or so. He wanted to be the big punter on campus, but I have a feeling that he'll be playing center from now on.
