Soriano Goes Down, Cubs Fans Consult Magic 8 Ball

by Jack Cobra, Cobra Brigade

Is it time for the Chicago Cubs to collapse? Should Cubs fans start jumping out of the windows of the tallest skyscraper they can find. Will I have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch today? The Magic 8 Ball says, "Maybe"

Things are not looking good in Wrigley-ville this morning as Superstar Alfonso Soriano pulled up like a lame Barbaro in the third inning of the Cubs game against the Mets last night. With the Cubs trailing 1-0, Soriano was trying to go from first to third when he strained his right quadricep muscle and will now be out for the next 2-4 weeks. It seems like the perfect metaphor for how the Cubs seasons seem to go.....everything looked to be going well as Soriano was making an aggressive play and then....pop, he's done.

When Soriano had a leg injury earlier this season he came back quickly and nursed it like a child nursing it's first bottle. He slowly worked his way back into the stolen base, home run hitting machine that the Cubs signed him to be at the same time that the Cubs team started to heat up. Unfortunately, the Cubs can't wait around for very long hoping for Soriano to come back and lead them. With Milwaukee now fully aware that the Cubs are nipping at them and with a slew of games this week against the Astros and Rockies.....they Cubs have to move on without Soriano.

Like an army that must continue its charge without their leader, the Cubs must continue to charge hard at the Brewers while they are still close enough to the NL Central lead to taste it. Any kind of letdown at this point will only lead to frustration from the fans, players and Cubs management.

Dude, my fantasy team is ruined.

I need more than the Magic 8 Ball, I need God.
