It was quite the weekend on the diamond, as three things we've been waiting for have finally happened. Well, technically two, as Baroid still has one more to go before we can officially ignore him and let him fade into obscurity. Anyhow, it's Monday and I definitely think I've got a case of the "Mondays" the annoying redhead is always talking about. Regardless, your going to get the headlines, the weekly Entourage recap, and the scoreboard. But first, here's Rocio Guirao Diaz, another attractive female that I'd never heard of before today.
Bonds Ties Hank Aaron at 755
This happened about 10;30 (EST) Saturday night. During my drive home from a disappointing Tigers game. When I heard it on the radio I really had no reaction. If anything I was surprised. As I didn't think Bonds was really trying to homer at all during the road trip. Though, hitting it in San Diego is a lot different than it would have been in Los Angeles. I heard more cheers than boo's and that surprised me as well. As I stated last week, I'm really not sure how I feel about the whole Bonds situation. And I'm not really sure I ever will. Which is strange to me, as I absolutely detest Sosa, McGwire, Canseco, and the rest of the funky bunch. Maybe, when Bonds finally does it I'll have figured out where I stand. Selig's reaction may be bigger than the HR itself. Especially when you consider he's unlikely to see #756 with the Giants heading home to host the Nationals. One of those youngsters will probably serve up the record breaking dinger. And if they don't become great that's all they'll be remembered for.
Tom Glavine Wins #300
Glavine reaching 300 has many asking themselves who, if anyone, is next? And I along with them have absolutely no idea. With the Big Unit's career possibly over and Mike Mussina likely to far away to get there it could be awhile. Glavine is the 23rd member of the exclusive 300 club, a fantastic acheivemtn for the soft tossing lefty. I'd say his career win ceiling is around 315 if he sticks around for another year or two. As I'm sure the Mets are hoping he will. Congrats Tom, it couldn't have been done by one of baseballs better citizens.
Alex Rodriguez is the Fastest to 500 Home Runs
In the bottom of the first inning on Saturday Arod finally got into what can no longer be called an exclusive club. The impressiveness of it lies in how fast he got there, and how far ahead of Bonds he is at the very same time. While I'd love to see Arod track down Barry, I'm hesitant to expect it as we all expected Ken Griffey Jr to be where Bonds is now and injuries ended any chance at that. I'll be hoping he gets there, somewhere outside of New York, but I'm not going to be counting down the long balls.
Meaningless Football Has Begun
The hall of fame game was last night as the Saints and Steelers took the field to kick of the preseason. I didn't watch real any of it. But, its certainly nice to know that football is back. Bringing with it one critical waiver wire grab after another in my many fantasy leagues.
Weekend Box Office Top 5
1. The Bourne Ultimatum*
2. The Simpsons Movie
3. Underdog*
4. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
5. Hairspray
Transformers is still raking at #8 with a total take of just under $300 million as of last night. I still haven't seen either The Simpsons or Chuck and Larry but I fully expect to see at least Chuck and Larry this week. As for Hairspray and Underdog? Those two probably won't be making it into my Blockbuster Que anytime before Armageddon.
*First Week
Television
I'll get to Entourage in a moment. But first, I figured I'd share something for my fellow Office fans out there. I must have missed this when it was announced but The Office's first 4 episodes will be one full hour. This all starts September 27th in the new 9 P.M. time slot.
Entourage was pretty good last despite one of the Sklar brothers nailing with the others wife, costing them both their jobs and Ari's agency Mary J Blige. The gluttony of jokes Ari tossed at the two of them were all pretty good. Eric finally growing up and getting himself an office is a little much for me. As I don't really feel he does anything other than serve as a buffer between Ari and Vince. And his quest for legitimacy wasn't terribly interesting to watch. Especially after he manned up for once and bagged that British chick last week. We'll see whether or not he gets what he's after, or fails miserably I'm sure. Also, am I the only one wondering what happened to that girl Turtle met at the shop? Hopefully she makes a return. Though I doubt it.
