Throwing Knives: Trade Deadline, KG, Daunte Signs!

by BD, Sports Show On Mute

Well it's Wednesday here in the house that Doug built and many a thing was finalized yesterday. From KG overshadowing the MLB's trade deadline to the few deals that went down at the deadline. I'm talking Gagne, Teixiera, and Dotel on the positive side of that fence. While the Yanks got Wilson Betemit as the potential successor to A-Rod at 3rd. Surely no one will even notice the difference next season. It's about time I quit rambling and get to the Knives though. So, give Heidi Klum a look and then join me below.

Culpepper Finally Signs Somewhere
Yesterday Daunte Culpepper finally signed a contract. It's a one year deal that will put him in Randy Moss' former stomping grounds, Oakland. This is a solid move for both parties as you've got to figure Culpepper is a better mid season insurance plan than Andrew Walter is. Though I think he's past his prime and without a Moss like WR who can go get anything within ten yards of him, Culpepper will struggle. But, Culpepper has a pretty good shot to start as #1 overall pick JaMarcus Russel remains unsigned. The Raiders are going to suck regardless of who starts. So, I'd have to imagine Culpepper will be on the bench come mid season.

Red Sox Cement Status As AL Favorite
In adding Eric Gagne to what was already the leagues best bullpen, the Sox may have cemented their status as the team to beat in the AL. Especially with arguably their biggest obstacle, the Tigers, doing absolutely nothing to fix their bullpen woes. They appear planning to wait and hope on Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney. Which will likely prove to be a mistake. In adding Gagne the Red Sox also gave themselves another closer caliber arm who can finish games along with Papelbon. Which allows Boston to protect their young closer. A position they were not in last season when Papelbon missed the end of the season with an injury. Unless Rodney and Zumaya come back strong, or the Angels somehow find a little extra power, I like Boston in the AL.

KG Is Now Officially A Celtic
He'll be donning the #5 for the green and white. He, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce were together for the first time last night at a press conference. A lot of people, namely Kiki Vandeweghe, who seems to think this makes Boston the slam dunk best team in the East. And a formidable contender to all of the Western powers. I couldn't disagree more. I'd say Miami (if healthy), Detroit, and probably Chicago are all still better than Boston will be. Is Boston a contender? Sure. But, they're still not the best team, in the East. Not without a better point guard. They're in the conversation though, and that's a start.
