Throwing Knives: Vick-tory?

by BD, Sports Show On Mute

Just when you thought we'd get from one Monday to the next before the Vick story managed another headline, you were wrong. It appears Vick's please agreement will allow him to avoid both murdering dogs and gambling, or will it? No one really knows at this point. But, it's hard to imagine the feds going for that. Nothing else too big on the docket today. Unless, your a die hard Pete Kendall fan that is. If for some reason you've forgotten how hot Roselyn Sanchez is. Enjoy the refresher.

Vick Plea Deal A Little Light?
It's hard to explain last nights Vick news. If it's true, the feds are basically letting Vick skate on the major charges while taking his co-defendants to task. The only way this makes any sense, is if the feds believe they cannot win at trial. Which, when you consider O.J. got off, is not completely ridiculous. One juror can, essentially, cost the government this case. If for no other reason than a belief in Vick and that he would never do the things he charged of. Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? Perhaps for some, but not this guy, as Vick dodging what he has, in my opinion, clearly done would make a joke of the government. And allow another athlete to escape what he deserves.

If this comes to pass, Vick has a very good shot to play in the NFL again. As the gambling and dog murder charges are the ones that would likely carry the most weight with commissioner Roger Goodell.

Are The Tigers Done?

The expected savior Joel Zumaya picked up the loss in his second appearance since being activated from the disabled list Tuesday. His control isn't anywhere near where it needs to be. And I'm not sure he should be back just yet. To make matters worse Gary Sheffiled will miss the entire weekend series with the Yankees, if not more games after that, due to a shoulder injury. It's conceivable that after the weekend the Tigers will be as many as 5 games out in the Central.
I'm only favoring the Cats in the final game of the series when Justin Verlander and Mike Mussina take the hill for each team. Otherwise, Tiger fans could be looking at another 3-1 series win for the Yanks and quite possibly to big a hole to climb out of if the Indians play even .500 ball the rest of the way.

Pete Kendall No Longer Disgruntled
The Jets, apparently tired of listening to their veteran G's contract grumbles. Unloaded him to Washington for an undisclosed draft pick on Thursday. The 'Skins will be reworking Kendall's deal to his liking (as they do for everyone) and I'd expect Kendall to be starting by Week 2 at the latest. Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts should be happy.

David Wells Signs With Dodgers
Sorry, Los Angeles this isn't going to help. As the ink drys the Dodgers season may have all but officially come to an end.

If Your Fantasy Draft Is Today
I'd recommend letting Donald Driver slip past you after last night's injury. The severity is still unknown. But, it's better to be safe in fantasy when it comes to injuries. Hopefully Driver's alright and ready to go, though. As his loss could absolutely devastate an already young packers offense outside of the gun slinger.

The problem Vick's going to face is the judge. If US District Judge Henry E. Hudson decides that he doesn't believe Vick's plea, he CAN opt to either go tough on Vick, or even throw the plea out, and insist Vick go to court & face all charges.

Vick's walking a tightrope, trying to minimize both jailtime, and his impending NFL suspension.
And I dunno about 'carrying the most weight'... whichever way it goes - Vick lied to the Commish. And that will come home to haunt him.

While I'd like to see Vick drawn and quartered for this, it wouldn't surprise me if the plea deal he ends up signing doesn't include admissions to the more reprehensible charges. That's basically the way justice works at the Federal level--they'd rather make a deal and get a conviction than go to the trouble and expense of a trial. I read somewhere that an insane percentage of Federal indictments end up in a plea deal--like 85 to 90% or higher. I wouldn't read this as the Feds not having the goods on Ron Mexico--its just the way they roll...

But as the previous commenter noted that it really doesn't matter what Vick does or doesn't admit to. Lying to the Commish is going to come back to bite him in the ass bigger than anything else in terms of his future status as an NFL player.
