Unsung Zeroes

by , Strike Zones and End Zones

Every week we hear stories of misbehavior and general douchebaggery from well known athletes in modern sports. But for every story that’s reported by no less than 250 media outlets, there’s another story that goes unnoticed. Well no more, because I now bring you Unsung Zeroes.

Today’s Unsung Zero: Former Russian Biathlete Alexander Tikhonov

According to Reuters, the president of the Russian Biathlon Union and former Olympic athlete Alexander Tikhonov was found guilty last month of conspiring to poison a regional governor in 2000. Despite this, he has remained free as a result of an amnesty deal.

The 4 time Olympic gold medalist and 13 time world champion arranged to poison the governor with the help of his brother and two accomplices. Tikhonov was caught when the accomplices turned informer (a licky boom boom down). Tikhonov’s brother has served four years in prison for the plot while Tikhonov himself will not be jailed. I’m sure this is ok with everyone involved. Those Russian contract killers are a forgiving bunch.

So, Mr. Tikhonov, for being a failed killer, making your brother serve your sentence, and using the clichéd act of poisoning to attempt murder despite your Olympic medal in a sport that involves rifle shooting, you are today’s Unsung Zero.
