Vick: Finally, Positive Recognition

by , Nation of Islam Sportsblog

Finally.

Finally some balance.

Finally a look from a source other than the skewered and biased mainstream media.

Finally some recognition for something other than ONE federal indictment.

When the SCLC gathers this week to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and the promise of Barack Obama, the presence of at least one more major figure will loom large – Michael Vick.

During a press conference announcing the opening of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's 49th annual convention to celebrate the organization's 50th year, president Charles Steele noted that the organization would find some way to honor and recognize the embattled Falcon's quarterback who is under federal indictment on dogfighting charges.

In spite of the media's attempt to turn the legacy of Vick into a legacy of poor choices and crime, the SCLC realizes that all the good Vick has done rates inclusion with King. It merits mention with the promise of Obama. Vick's legacy is something of such importance that it must be honored during the remembrance of 50 years of civil rights struggle.

Key speakers include Jesse Jackson, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Unfortunately, there has been no confirmation that Vick will take the podium to also address the assembly.

Additionally, there was no mention as to what specifically Vick has done to warrant being honored. But, we have been assured that this is not just some empty offering of nothing more than race based solidarity.

And we assure you the same.

In that light, we ask everyone to please take a moment over this weekend to reflect on all the positives that Michael Vick has provided. We beseech you.

It should take just a moment.
