Vlad the Impaler Gets Bored....Starts to Hit Homers Again

by Jack Cobra, Cobra Brigade

When Vlad Guerrero wants to homer, he homers....when he doesn't want to homer, he just hits the living crap out of the ball. This is his mantra in life and it should be yours as well. For the past month Vladdy has been fairly content with the Angels being in first place in the American League West. After carrying the team for the first half of the season and getting them into first place he decided he was going to let some of the other guys carry the weight for awhile. It's the least he could do, especially since the Angels are trying to get all of those top notch prospects to bloom like a flower in the Spring.

Well, last night Vlad got bored and decided to start to hit homers again. Yes, homers...plural. Two of them to be exact. After a 30 game, 125 at-bat self-imposed drought Vladdy decided it was time for him to do some yardwork and lead the Angels to a 6-4 victory over the hapless Oakland A's. A word from Vlad after the game:

We are getting into the end of the Summer and I've just been letting the grass
grow and grow. Yes, it would be easy for me to just hire an illegal immigrant to
cut my grass for me and maybe pull some weeds, but I'm a grown man and I can do my own yardwork. Tonight, I decided I would begin to show the world, once again....why I am the true Impaler!
I don't know, I very well may have made that up. Nevertheless....fastball, curveball, slider, knuckler, change-up, etc., it doesn't matter. Vlad is the master and he will hit them very hard. It doesn't matter where the ball is, as long as he sees it......he hits it and he hits it hard.

On a serious note, and I hate to get serious on a Friday, rarely does an athlete like Vlad Guerrero come along in baseball and it's kind of a shame that he hasn't played in a large media market at some point in his career. Whether it's hitting, running, or throwing; Vlad has done it all. Yes, he has slowed down a bit in the past few years (we can thank the concrete playground of Montreal Olympic Stadium for that), but there is still time to watch Vlad and appreciate him for the way he plays the game.
