by Don, With Malice...
So George Steinbrenner has put the YES network up for sale.
Maybe.
Both Yankee officials and high-ranking YES management are somewhat circumspect about it, but when pressed Gerry Cardinale, a YES board member stated that "We would consider selling only if we receive a full and fair price."
So... what's that mean?
CNN's Fortune asserts that this "full and fair price" could reach as high as $3.5 billion. That would make the true gem of the Steinbrenner empire the YES network, not the Yanks.
Some point to a possible sale of the YES Network as an indication that maybe the Yankees will be on the block at some point as well. Those same folks will point to the departure of Steve Swindal (who was married to George's daughter Jennifer, but she began divorce proceedings in March), George's poor health, and growing costs of Yankee Stadium as all indicators that maybe, just maybe, there will be a sale of the world's pre-eminent franchise.
That doesn't mean a helluva lot. The new Yankee Stadium once built will bring in a lot more revenue than the current stadium. And apparently Hal Steinbrenner's keen to fill Swindal's shoes - and most that know him declare him to be more than capable.
Let's hope so. As much as I hate the Yankees, it wouldn't the same without a Steinbrenner in charge.

It's looking like the front runner could be the Murdoch family and News Corp. The company has pretty extensive relationships with YES, and is considered as one of the candidates. Check out this link for more on it.
