AIKMAN HAS ANOTHER CONCUSSION ON PTI

by Mac G, Mac G's World

I was listening to PTI last Wednesday (9/19) on the radio and I almost wrecked my car listening to a few comments from Cowboys HOF QB, Troy Aikman. He had issues with the Tank Johnson signing and went on a predictable "Pro Norv Turner" rant. You can listen to whole audio here.

Let me address his Turner comments first and save the Cowboys' "White House" flashback analysis until the end.

Tony Kornheiser asks Aikman the obvious question as to why Norv is a great O Cordinator but has trouble being a head coach? His response:

"Well, I don't know that he has had that much trouble as far as being a head coach."

Turner's current up to date head coaching record is 59-84-1. No more elaboration needed.

Aikman continues, stating that he is not an apologist for Norv and he is bias on this topic because of their days together as a Cowboy. He then goes on to makes numerous excuses for Norv Turner and become his number one apologist.

"Tenure with Redskins was not as bad as people initially thought."

He cites how Gibbs has had little success there since his return. However, Norv was 49-59-1 in 7 seasons with the Skins through 1994-2000 and made the playoffs one time. You can put some blame on Snyder's meddling but 5 of Turner's seasons were BEFORE Snyder bought the team. Snyder never should have fired Marty or hired Spurrier and desperately needs a GM. Those questionable decisions are irrelevant to how the team played under Turner for 7 YEARS!

"No one can have success in Oakland."

Another Excuse and Turner's record in 2 seasons with Oakland was 9-23. Al Davis is nuts and should not be making personnel decisions at his age. I barely want my Grandpa to drive, let alone draft NFL players.

In spite of Davis' stranglehold environment, Gruden found a way to achieve success and even Callahan took the team to the Super Bowl. Ask a Raider fan what he thinks of the Norv Turner 2 year experiment and their answer will be is that he had no clue what he was doing at all. It just proves again that he is just not cut out to be a head coach in the NFL.

Aikman argues Chargers probably should not have won the Pats game but agrees they should not have been blown out either.

"We will know much more about the San Diego Chargers when they travel this week against Green Bay."

We sure do now Troy. Green Bay blitzed their linebackers at will to stop LT and Norv made ZERO adjustments to counter this defensive schemes. The Chargers D has been atrocious, coincidence or just another typical problem created by Turner coached team.

Norv is a good guy and his track record as a O coordinator is impressive but he did not deserve another opportunity as a head coach in the NFL. No way should he have been given the keys to a 14-2 team either. I am glad that I am not AJ Smith or a Charger fan right about now.

Troy, I know you are boys with Norv and owe a huge chunk of your Canton Bust to his play calling but please just call a spade, a spade. Or in this case, a bad head coach, a bad head coach. I can not take 14 more weeks of you making these hollow excuses every time the Chargers come up on one your broadcasts.

Anyway, Troy began his interview by disagreeing with the Cowboys signing of troubled Tank Johnson and he feels that you have to win with good guys.

"Our teams that were successful back in the mid 90s had alot of high character individuals........ I think in alot ways it send the wrong message to the youth in our country."

When I think of the "How Bout them Cowboys" of the 90s, the first thing I think about is the Big 3, their dominant Oline, Jimmy Johnson, Jerry Jones and their Squeaky clean image. HA!

Sorry that last part made my chuckle, out loud and should be replaced with the "White House." Not the one on 1600 Penn Ave either.

He was also a regular at the "White House," a private pleasure palace near the team's training facility, where he and many teammates enjoyed their R&R, which apparently included just about any wanton activity you could imagine.

Lineman Nate Newton demurred. "We've got a little place over here where we're running some whores in and out, trying to be responsible, and we're criticized for that, too."

These "High character" guys had a pad for their whores and blow parties. These dudes "made it rain" at a private crib and away from the public. This makes them more savvy and smart than possessing some high moral character which led to on field success.

A quick run down of Troy's high character on his Oline. One tackle Mark Tuinei died of a Herion overdose and the other tackle Erik Williams had numerous brushes with the law. Williams was a main guest at the "White House" too. His left guard Newton was busted TWICE transporting hundreds of lbs of mary jane.

Super Bowl MVP Larry Brown was recently arrested for passing bad checks. Barry Switzer famously carried a gun on to a plane. Then we have the Playmaker, Michael Irvin. His checkered off the field activities are well documented and I found this amazing quote from one his personal assistants, validating my point.

"Michael's main addiction was p***y," Paco says. "People have heard this and that about the 'white house,' but they wouldn't believe the sh*t that went on. It was one big nonstop orgy, and Mike was right in the middle. But even with all the partying, no matter what happened, he never let it interfere with football. I'm not saying he was a saint, but football always came first."

This team was great because they had ballers, period. Their only "high character" was being able to have these vices and still perform on the field, in spite of them.

My last problem was Troy going to the "bad example to our youth" card. A bad example to kids is having our president veto a bill providing health care to poor children. Another horrible examples to our youth are cheating on your wife and driving drunk, not giving a DL, who likes to carry guns, a contract in the NFL.
