A NCAA FOOTBALL PREDICTION: 3 TEAMS WILL BE 12-0 AT SEASON'S END

by Lozo, Why Don't We Get Drunk and Blog?

That's right. After just three weeks worth of football, I can safely say three teams will be 12-0 at season's end. Crazy? You bet. Like a fox? Like a sexy fox.

But I'm not kidding. Because of a combination of superior talent and inferior competition, we're going to have a mess come late November.

Here's why -- three of the following teams are going to be undefeated: Southern Cal, California, LSU, Florida, West Virginia, Rutgers, Penn State, Ohio State and Hawaii.

For some of these teams, it's just a matter of numbers. No one on either of USC's or California's schedule is beating USC or California except one or the other. The same can be said for Penn State and Ohio State, two teams who play absolutely no one (let's face it -- Wisconsin is not who we thought they were) and now with Louisville showing they aren't as good, Rutgers and West Virginia are in that boat, too.

The only thing on the side of getting multiple teams a loss with LSU and Florida is the fact they play twice (SEC title game is a mortal lock) and could split.

I'll grant you that Hawaii could lose to Washington in its finale or maybe even Fresno State. But Hawaii gets both of those games at home, and let's face it, Hawaii is far superior to either of those teams. Of course, Hawaii could go 120-0 and they wouldn't get ahead of a one-loss major program anyway.

As it stands now, I can't see Oklahoma losing to anyone, not even its toughest opponent left, Texas. It's a road game, but really, the way Texas has looked the past two weeks tells me Oklahoma blows through them like Ralph Friedgen blows through a bag Oreos.

In this hypothetical world I have created where a few of those potential unbeatens face off, let's say it shakes out where USC, Oklahoma, LSU, Rutgers, Penn State and Hawaii all come out unscathed. Can you see any more than three of those teams losing to anyone else on their schedule? Even if you rule out the last three, I suppose the three most likely to drop a game, you're still left with USC (or Cal), LSU (or Florida) and Oklahoma (just not losing in that conference) all at 12-0.

I know this comes across as crazy just three games deep for some of these teams, but you heard it here first -- three teams (heck, maybe four) will be 12-0 at the end of the season. Fear not, though, as I will have a plan for the NCAA to adopt tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Penn State lose next week to Michigan. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if nobody went undefeated in the Big Ten. Nobody is really a step above the competition. Illinois and Michigan State look like legitimate contenders as much as Penn State or Ohio State.

Short answer - yeah, the Big Ten pretty much sucks through and through.
