COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 3 OBSERVATIONS

by WCT, Wasting Company Time

Week 3 promised to teach us a lot about a lot of teams that were untested in the first two weeks, and it did not disappoint.

- USC made a statement, although crushing an overrated Nebraska team is not as impressive as crushing Virginia Tech, so LSU stays #1 on my ballot

- Lets just get the insufferable self-promotion out of the way right now: If you listened to me here, or here, then you made some money betting on Kentucky. This team can score with anybody in the country, and Andre' Woodson should be in the heisman discussion.

- Sometimes you're right, and sometimes you're wrong, and I was clearly wrong about Florida (and Tennessee for that matter).

- I guess I was also wrong about Georgia Tech. They were never really competitive Saturday against Boston College. Does BC really have enough to win the ACC?

- For the first time all year, Ohio State looked like a top 10 team that can compete for the Big Ten championship. The 19-point win over an improved Washington team in Seattle was very impressive.

- Speaking of the Buckeyes, can we stop all of the yapping about how overrated the Big Ten is? Between OSU and Wisconsin, the Big Ten has two top 10 teams, each with a blowout win over a Pac-10 opponent. Granted, Wisconsin didn't really look so hot letting Citadel hang around into the second half, but they ended up winning by 14, so you can't blame them.

- I hope the Pac-10 homers who were pounding their chests after week 2 enjoyed those seven days leading up to this past Saturday. Did anyone else catch that UCLA-Utah game? Good god. Utah shouldn't be beating anybody 44-6, much less a team that was supposed to challenge USC for the Pac-10 title.

- By the way, when did they become just "Citadel?" Haven't they always been The Citadel? How are things working out for them since they dropped the "The?" How many people were in on that decision?

- Maybe I shouldn't have given up my "Texas is overrated" talk so soon. A legitimate top 10 team should not need a late touchdown to barely beat Central F-ing Florida.

- Remember all of that talk about Auburn being a possible SEC sleeper? Yeah, that isn't going to happen.

- Speaking of the SEC, its good to see the AP voters finally woke up and put Alabama into the top 25.

- I know this is a college football post, but I have to mention this: How about Derek Anderson and the Browns hanging half-a-hundred on Cincinnati on Sunday??
