Team USA has clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup hosted by China. Lori Chalupny scored in the first minute on Tuesday to lead the USA team to the 1-0 victory over Nigeria.
Does anyone care though? I know many females around the country admire the athletes but how can they admire them when the young girls are in school when these games are being played. The only way people are seeing these games is during Sportscenter or catch the replay later that evening of the earlier game.
ESPN is trying to shove the Women's World Cup down the viewers throats with constant advertising for the tournament. I just don't get why they think it is interesting to watch women play an inferior brand of soccer over showing some of Mike & Mike in the morning. We had the great matchup in the opening round when Germany demolished Argentina 11-0.
What can ESPN do to make you watch the Women's World Cup? My suggestion is to have Heather Mitts do the show in a nice bikini and all the men sitting at home will be fascinated with her good looks but I don't think former boyfriend A.J. Feeley would like that idea.
