DODGERS FIGHT AMONGST THEMSELVES

by Jack Cobra, Cobra Brigade

The past month was supposed to be the time of the season when MLB teams came together to form a cohesive unit in their pursuit of the playoffs. I don't think the Dodgers received that memo. Although the Dodgers have a talented mix of veterans and youngsters on their roster, they just can't seem to get along with each other. T.J Simers of the L.A. Times brought forth some interesting quotes for you and I to ponder over:

It's become increasingly apparent in the last few days that the Dodgers
have more problems than their lowly station in the standings, or as Derek Lowe
put it, "The tension here is getting to the point where we have two different
teams in [the clubhouse]."

Lowe, after spending a good deal of time criticizing his own inconsistent
performance this season, added, "The last two or three weeks we haven't been on
the same page as a team, and you can see what happens when that's not the
case."The Dodgers' collapse down the stretch, Lowe said, "wasn't because of a
string of bad luck; it's just not a lot of people pulling together in
here."

The other day Jeff Kent responded to a reporter's question about the state
of the Dodgers, and he said everybody was at fault for the team's demise, while
also indicating the kids didn't feel the same urgency as the veterans when it
came to capitalizing on a winning opportunity.
It's kind of like a huge Battle Royal....I'm wondering who will go over the top rope next because their playoff chances have already left the building.....

Interesting that Jeff Kent would be in the center of another team rift (although I took his side when he and Barry went at it). As a Giants fan, nothing could make me happier than the Dodgers fighting amongst themselves.

Agreed. Kent, Nomar and Lowe have to take some responsibility because they haven't been 'model teammates' during their careers. I was surprised there hasn't been much said from Russell Martin, who is supposed to be the next Dodgers leader.
