Epic Carnival's NCAA Football Top 20+1: Week 1

by OMDQ, One More Dying Quail

Rough crowd, these carnies: all three ranked teams that lost last weekend - Michigan, Tennessee, and Florida State - slipped out of the 20+1 this week (the Seminoles didn't even garner a single vote). I was surprised that the Volunteers were dropped by so many pollsters - losing on the road to a team ranked several spots ahead of them hardly seemed to be cause for removing them altogether.

The three newcomers include Appalachian State. While the Mountaineers are not eligible for the AP and USA Today polls, Epic Carnival is not so discriminating. We have a guy who did his rankings by pulling them out of a hat, for goodness sake; would it really be fair to deny a Division 1-AA team a well-deserved place in our rankings?

  • Pat White is reaaaaaally fast. – More Credible

3 LSU (2) 168 (Last Week: T-3)

  • Boy... do I feel stupid. Even I know they're better than this [20+1]. Oh well... shoulda frozen the envelope. – With Malice

4 Wisconsin 157 (Last Week: 7)

5 Florida 147 (Last Week: 6)

  • Tebow goes 13-17, 300 yards. Offense looked efficient, but defense looked sloppy. – More Credible

6 (tie) Louisville 130 (Last Week: 11)

8 California 128 (Last Week: 12)

  • If anyone kicks it to DeSean Jackson again this season, they should be fired. – More Credible

9 Texas (1) 126 (Last Week: 2)

  • I'm punishing them for the close call. I still see a two loss season for UT. – Wasting Company Time

13 Rutgers 72 (Last Week: 17)

  • Might be a top five team before all is said and done. – Our Book of Scrap

14 Penn State 66 (Last Week: 18)

15 Auburn 64 (Last Week: 13)
16 UCLA 58 (Last Week: 15)
17 Nebraska 55 (Last Week: Unranked)

18 Appalachian State (1) 48 (Last Week: Unranked)

(Editor's note: The Associated Press said Thursday that lower-division schools - including the Mountaineers - are now eligible for its 71-year-old poll. We did not know that at the time of our selections. We are just geniuses who are ahead of our time.)

  • They're eligible in this poll. – Doberman on the Diamond
  • This isn't the AP Poll, so ASU gets a much deserved spot. Now if only we could get this squad to play a few more of the big boys to the wire, at the least. – Sports Show On Mute

19 Georgia Tech 45 (Last Week: Unranked)

  • Georgia Tech - Lost in the "ND lost" sentiment from Saturday was the fact that GT is a pretty damn good team. – Wasting Company Time

20 Hawaii 31 (Last Week: 21)

PLUS ONE...

21 Arkansas 29 (Last Week: T-19)

  • So, Darren McFadden is throwing touchdowns now? – More Credible

I kinda feel like we need some more consistency in this bad boy. But I love it though.

what do you mean?

My rankings pretty much change a lot in the first few weeks considering I base it solely on quality wins/bad losses and don't take any assumptions prior. Thus teams that played a crappy opponent last week, like many of the top teams aren't in my rankings.
