FOR YOUR OWN SAKE SHAWN, THINK IT THROUGH

by T, The Angry T

So Shawn Marion wants to be wants to be traded. I want you to think long and hard about this one Shawn. I know you feel “disrespected” because the team won’t talk with you about contract extensions and they dangled you Kevin Garnett trade bait this offseason, but let’s think this over before you do anything rash. Let’s look at a few reasons why this is a terrible decision.

1. You have two years left on a contract that will pay you $16.4 million this season and $17.8 million the next. If you think you are worth more, look at the reasons below:

2. You have absolutely no individual offensive moves, not one. Have you ever heard an announcer say, “Marion takes him off the dribble and lays it in”? No, you haven’t because he can’t take anyone off the dribble. You can dunk, you can rebound, you can play defense and you can hit the wide open three but an offensive juggernaut you are not.

3. If you combine the first two facts, you have to wonder why Phoenix would talk extension at this point. Your game relies completely on athleticism. Without your explosiveness you would be an average NBA basketball player with the most hideous jumpshot in the history of the game. Any extension talk would involve giving you max money. Would any GM in their right mind give you a max contract? I would like to say no, but I am sure there is an NBA team out there with 21 million a year burning a hole in their pocket

4. Probably most important in this trade talk is the fact that you are made to look good every night because of the play of Steve Nash. I think this guy would struggle mightily without a point guard who can get him the ball exactly where he needs it almost every time. You can’t discount your three point shooting (34.2 %) for a big man, but you have to wonder what would happen to your percentages if Steve Nash is no longer drawing the D and kicking to you for a wide open shot in the corner.

So please Shawn, think about it long and hard before you leave Phoenix, because it will probably be the worst career decision you could possibly make. In all actuality, you don’t deserve max money and you are probably being paid an amount that is pretty damn close to your market value. If you do get traded, and this will depend on where you go, but I can’t wait to see what you would do as a number #1 offensive option. Don’t forget, you do not posses any individual offensive moves, and judging by the video, your defense might need a little work as well:
