Just how much joy do you think Ohio State fans took in Michigan's historic defeat at the hands of I-AA Appalachian State on Saturday? Yeah, you're pretty close. From the amount of Appalachian State gear being sold in and around Columbus these days, I'd say that ASU has created a whole new fan base, even if it is only temporary.
Hours after the defeat, at least one street vendor was doing brisk business selling freshly minted Mountaineers T-shirts near the Ohio State campus. Local stores say they've been swamped with requests for similar gear.
"If I had a dollar for every time someone's asked, I could retire," said manager Greg Pierson at Sports Fan Attic.
And if you think that the sales of ASU apparel is limited to stores in Ohio, you'd be wrong.
...phone lines at the bookstore on the Appalachian State campus in Boone, N.C., have been jammed with orders for Mountaineers merchandise, with many calls coming from Ohio.
This, folks, is why college football is so awesome. You'll never see Packers fan buying Colts gear just because they beat the Bears in the Super Bowl. Although if you did see a few thousand fans wearing Peyton Manning jerseys at Lambeau this year, it would create a legendarily comic scene.

Surprisingly, Ohio State fans have been really cool about it in my experience so far. I mean, they always mention that they are happy and hate my guts, but have really been the only other fans to understand that it really rucking sucks to be a Michigan fan right now.
