Rodney Harrison Should Be Cut

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball Blog

The New England Patriots should cut Rodney Harrison immediately based on the fact that Harrison has admitted to taking Human Growth Hormone (HGH) to help with recovery from an injury. He has been punished by commissioner Robert Goddell with a four game suspension.

Why should the Patriots keep a known cheater on the team? The Patriots have this mentality around the nation that they will not accept players who put their individual interests in front of the teams. Harrison did put himself in front of the team by taking HGH and then getting caught ordering the stuff for an upstate New York doctor. He has hurt the Patriots by getting himself suspended for the first four games and will have to be replaced by a lesser talented player.

Harrison also has been injured in the last two seasons after blowing his knee in 2005 and hurting his shoulder in 2006 which cost him six weeks last year. The Patriots can replace Harrison with a younger and more able bodied athlete with much less mileage on the wheels. Harrison is entering his 14th season which means he is on the last legs of his career.

The last reason Rodney Harrison should be let go is that he has a reputation of a dirty player. He is known to lay out every receiver he gets a chance to when they come over the middle. He could seriously injure someone with the way he hits players over the middle. The NFL players have recognized this as he was named the dirtiest player in 2004 and 2006 in a poll conducted by Sports Illustrated. Harrison has been fined for over 200,000 dollars and was suspended for a violent hit on Jerry Rice in 2002.

What should be done to Harrison?
