And it's not for the reason I'm allegedly supposed to be (ya know, the Hurricane thing). Rather for their ability to make my evening a good one last night. You see, I had little doubt that Tennessee would win the game, but I needed them to exceed 40 points to win my bet. After Rob Bironas missed a chip shot FG with under 5 minutes left I was positive I would be handing over the money when I got to work. Yet somehow, Drew Brees throws ANOTHER pick for a touchdown and I've hit a what looked like a very long shot at halftime. I figure it's karma after the Saints destroyed my wallet last week. I'll be getting to College Football today as well as last night's first episode of Heroes. Today it's Lacey Chabert, just because.
Marching Into Obscurity (I Wish)
Ahhh.... how the "mighty" have fallen. That is, if you ever considered the Saints one of the NFL's giants in the first place. Given they play in the NFC (the worst conference), and the South (arguably the worst division), it just seemed like they'd repeat what they did last year. To a degree at least. At 0-3 I'd almost guarantee this miss the playoffs, but it is the NFC.
Piling on for the Saints is the reported loss of Deuce McAllister for the season after he tore his ACL. Look, that injury cost me my fantasy game last night as Captain Hype's two touchdown were enough. But this loss is far bigger than losing Bush would be. One of the problem's with NO's offense was that Bush was getting more carries this year and he's not much of a running back. He's more of a receiver/returner really. Every carry he takes up the middle he tries to spin past the first guy and get speared in the back. Your not Barry Sanders ass-hole. Quit trying to be.
My biggest issue with the Saints suckitude? Predicting games between them and either Atlanta or Carolina. Can you even have a spread over 1.5 next time Atlanta and Carolina hook-up? If not for DeAngelo Hall the Panthers would not have covered 4 points on Sunday. Not to mention, Joey Harrington had over 300 yards, 2 TD"s and ZERO interceptions. Isn't it virtually illegal for him not to throw at least one each game? I think he was still at Oregon the last time he didn't throw a pick.
Michigan Back?
Not Yet. But as I said on Sunday their's a chance that little game with Ohio State will be for the Big Ten title once again. Provided UM can go to Madison and knock off the Badgers in a few weeks. Sure, the Badgers look like diarrhea next to their expectations. But it's in Madison.
Brian Brohm Hates Himself
That's a lie. I think, anyway. You never really could know for sure, though. But when you consider Brohm was a lock for the top 10 in last years draft and that his team has dropped 2 of their first four games despite his sterling play. Not to mention one of those losses was to Syracuse! Yes, the same Syracuse Washington annihilated 42-12, Illinois 41-20 and Iowa shutout 35-0. I know comparing victories is meaningless, but hey-zeus people. The damn Orange were 38 point 'dogs. THIRTY EIGHT! At least Appalachian State can beat Wake Forest. And, yes I know ASU lost to Wofford this week.
I'd also vote for Brohms hate to be directed at (in no particular order) his entire defense and those who coach them, Steve Kragthrope, Bobby Petrino, Andre' Woodson and the color Orange.
Winters Landed On A Hotel Covered Park Place...
...And refused to pay at that. Milton Bradley has quite a past and that's not going to help him with this situation. Even worse, he tore his damn ACL when Bud Black took him to the ground during the altercation. This just days after Bradley returned from an oblique injury to boot.
To be honest, I'm not sure why but I find myself buying Bradley's story right now. Sure, he shouldn't have said a word to Winters until after the game. But I sure as hell know I would have said something. Personality deficiency's, or hazards even I suppose.
Mike Gundy Channels Dan Hawkins
It was a little spooky how similar he sounded to Hawkins throughout his little rant. I'm not sure how I feel about it as a whole. Given the coach's lack of interest in explaining himself. Though I will say I agree that attacking amateur athletes because their a Mama's boy is a little much. I am a blogger though, so living in my mothers basement I'm required to defend mama's boys everywhere. It is my burden and I wear it with honor.
Scared Mets?
How about those Phillies tying the (imploding) Padres for first in the wild card? I'm praying they get in and manage to knock off the Mets in the NLCS. Hell, I'd root for them in the World Series as well. Given the Tigers certain demise and all.
Weekend Box Office Top 5
1. Resident Evil: Extinction
2. Good Luck Chuck
3. The Brave One
4. 3:10 To Yuma
5. Eastern Promises
I'll be seeing both Resident Evil and Good Luck Chuck at some point soon. As I believe I said last week The Brave One isn't something I'm likely to ever see. And I have absolutely no idea what Eastern Promises even is.
Television
I've got Chuck, Californication, and Weeds all securely on my DVR. So my opinions on those are coming tomorrow. For today though, it's just Heroes.
Heroes kicked off its second season solidly. It was admittedly a little slow, but that's to be expected as they set everything up for the season. The big questions for me coming out of last night are pretty simple. Why was Peter there? And chained/cuffed no less? He is still very much super powered after all. How long until Mohinder and Noah's (aka HRG) plan to take down the company blows up in their face? Where was Niki, Micah and D.L.? How will the Clare-flying kid situation play out at school? Where is the Hiro/Kensie thing going? Who killed Hiro's dad, and will apparently kill Peter and Nathan's mom? Why isn't Nathan's face as messed up as it appeared in the reflection? What happened to Nathan's political career? How did Maya kill all of those people in Honduras?
This is what Heroes does though. It raises questions and I anticpate it answering them in a timely fashion as they did last year. Looks like we're in for another good season.
Rating: 7.5/10
