by WCT, Wasting Company Time
Ok, this past weekend was C-R-A-Z-Y. And to think I was complaining that this weekend's schedule didn't have many intriguing games.
- The Auburn-Florida game was probably the most entertaining, with a great rally by the Gators down the stretch to tie it, and not one but TWO (thanks to a cheap, but legal timeout by Florida) clutch field goals by Auburn kicker Wes Byrum. Where has this been from Auburn all year? They lose to South Florida, but beat Florida? Just weird. On a personal note, the upset makes my trip to Baton Rouge for this weekends UF-LSU game a little less meaningful, but what can you do.
- Cal and Oregon both looked impressive on Saturday, and you can't really punish the Ducks too much for losing that type of game by a touchdown. If USC is able to go on the road and beat both of those teams in their own stadiums, I will be very surprised.
- Anyone want to join me on the "DeSean Jackson for Heisman" bandwagon?
- Speaking of USC, the Trojans looked like they were sleepwalking through most of the game at Washington on Saturday night. How do you only win that game by 3 points? The AP voters finally began to see things my way, punishing USC by dropping them to #2.
- I was never alone on this, but I have been shouting from the mountaintops all year about how overrated Texas was, and they finally proved me right. Losing to Kansas State is one thing, losing to K-state at home is another, but holy crap, how on earth do you lose to the Wildcats at home by 20 points? Legitimate top 10 teams do not lose home games to unranked teams by almost three touchdowns.
- Speaking of inexcusable losses, is it possible that both Texas and Oklahoma were looking ahead to next week's Red River Shootout game? That is the only explanation for a team that has looked as impressive as Oklahoma blowing a 17 point second half lead to Colorado.
- Finally, the other shoe dropped for Clemson. It seems like every year they tease their fans by looking so good early, and you feel like they could be a national championship sleeper. Then, like clockwork, they come up with one inexplicable loss to an unranked team, and fade into "bolivian." This year, it was a 13-3 stinker against a previously struggling Georgia Tech team.
- You know, there was a time that I thought that Penn State had a chance to win the Big 10 title. How dumb am I?
- Its tough to tell what to make of Wisconsin. They don't blow anybody out, but they just keep winning. They remind me a little bit of the 2002 Ohio State team that won the National Championship by seemingly winning all of their games by a touchdown or less.
A few thoughts on the new AP top 25 rankings, which by the way, are crazy:
- Ohio State is #4. I have seen each of their five games, and there is no way that they are the fourth best team in the country. Although they did beat Washington by a much larger margin than USC did, so who knows?
- The highest ranked team from the state of Florida? The South Florida Bulls, of course.
- South Florida, BC and Kentucky (I am so smart! I am so smart! S-M-R-T!!) are now top 10 teams. Very strange.
- Speaking of Kentucky, it is just bizarre to see them ranked ahead of Florida.
- How do the voters have West Virginia ranked ahead of Oregon?

That was the absolute worst Florida could play. The playcalling was pretty awful too, especially with the overuse of zone coverage and constant "Tebow Slams". If Urban and company were so scared of Auburn's defensive line, why not throw? Atleast the line can pass block, if they can't run block.
My hat's off to the Tigers though, they had a great game plan for Florida. By the way, I'm considering the trip to Baton Rouge.
BAAAAAHHAAAAHAAAAA. OSU isn't the fourth best team? Who is? The losers to Auburn? USC?
LSU is the only team that has separated themselves from the pack. Given the only other top ranked team with an awesome defense is OSU, you are speaking to the hand.
Quick, name me how many national championships Ohio State has in the last two years?
Anybody?
Then, name me how many times Ohio State has beaten Florida.
Anybody?
