The one and only Doctor Emmett Brown has joined the Epic Carnival team to provide insight on some of the great sports stars of the future. Having placated all potential problems in Hill Valley, he has turned his attention to sports. He has seen that the future has to offer and is here to give us a sneak peak. Brown is going to drop by from time to time and show us a variety of some stars you might not have heard of yet, but certainly will. These are some of the heavy hitters in high school sports today who are sure to make an impact on the college scene before long.
"There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?"
This week, we are taking a look at the future anchor of the USC offensive line (verbal commitment). We figured it's only fair to throw USC a bone since they have such a rough life having lost to Harbaugh and Stanford so early in the season. We feel so sorry for the Trojans.
Name: Tyron Smith
Position: Offensive Tackle
Rivals/Scout Ranking: Rivals 5 stars and Scout 5 stars
Vitals: 6'5" / 260 pounds / 5.1 forty
Video:
Strengths: Tyron Smith has great technique and giant mitts to manhandle opposing linemen. He plays in a primarily pass oriented offense, so he is a particularly solid pass blocker for a high school player. Smith is known for a great work ethic and drive as he loves to play on both sides of the field and is a defensive standout as well.
Stats/Accolades: Two-time Nike Camp MVP
Criticisms: Smith is a bit undersized for an elite college lineman, so he will need to focus on gaining some body mass. His body is a rock and he has great strength, but will need a wider base. This is certainly par for the course, but it is really his only area of weakness. His run blocking is solid, but the Rancho Verde offense is a pass heavy team, so he'll likely have some work to do here as well.
Extremely Annoying Factoid: Tyron Smith is not the top ranked offensive tackle in the country - Matt Kalil is - and he has also committed to USC.
