MATT RYAN IS A GOD

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball Blog

While the rest of the country was watching Game 2 of the World Series, Boston College took on Virginia Tech in a match-up between the number two and eight teams in the country. The game was relatively boring with Virginia Tech holding a 10-0 lead with about four minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Matt Ryan took over the game around the four minute mark by marching the Eagles to a touchdown with 2:11 left to Rich Gunnell in the corner of the end zone. The Boston College coaching staff rolled the dice by kicking an onside kick which they were able to recover. This gave Matt Ryan a chance to bring the Eagles into field goal range to tie up the game. The Eagles drove all the way down to the 24 yard line. BC was facing a third and 20 when Matt Ryan took the snap and rolled around the pocket which seemed like forever when he found Andre Callendar wide open in the end zone to score the winning touchdown with 11 seconds left. This was the second time that Ryan has brought the Eagles back from the brink of defeat as he lead the Eagles to two touchdowns in the final three minutes in 2005 against Wake Forest. Check out the video of BC's final after the jump.

This game was a national showcase for the Boston College program and Matt Ryan for his Heisman hopes. The Eagles offense sputtered through the first 56 minutes but came alive at the end to give them the victory. The Boston College defense was able to limit the Va Tech offense to only 10 points and the only touchdown scored by the Hokies was clearly an incomplete pass and should have been reversed. The Boston College program now welcomes Florida State to Chestnut Hill next weekend for another ACC showdown.
