NICK FALDO IS BACK TO HURTING MONTY'S FEELINGS

Just under two weeks ago, 2008 European Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo took heat for comments made about Colin Montgomerie. I won't waste time recounting all that was said, but to paraphrase -- Faldo said Monty is an emotional bitty -- but if actually reading the quotes is more to your liking, I guess you can find them here.

Well, it seems Nick Faldo is at it again -- except this time, he's taking the passive aggressive rout. Giving no names, Nick Faldo was able to again hurt the Scotsman's feelings. Said Faldo,

"Match play, putting is unbelievably important," Faldo said. "It covers up a multitude of sins. You've got to be a good putter to play match play, and I think you get that from the psychology of match play. You're not worried about, or not thinking about, the next stroke. There's no lagging, or very rarely."

You may be wondering how these comments could possibly have any correlation to Colin Montgomerie. Well, the thing is, Colin's putting has be somewhat sub par this season. One quick side note: Why is underachieving at something termed "sub par"? If par is a golf term, and it is. And shooting under par is the ultimate goal of golf, which it is. Then why would being sub, which means below, par be considered a bad thing? Just food for thought.

Montgomerie has been on a steady free fall down the ladder of the World Golf Rankings since he opened the season in 17th. Currently, Colin stands in 53rd place thanks in the most part to his shoddy putting of late.

So the gist of Faldo's most recent barrage at Monty: You're going to have to work to make it. Not a novel concept, but seeing as Montgomerie is a veteran, playing since 1991, and is somewhat of a Ryder Cup legend, having never lost a singles match, Faldo's comments definitely carry the extra weight of vendetta.

Now the golf world waits to see how Monty will respond. Will he step his game up? Or will the 45-year-old Scotsman do what he's proven he does best in the past and pout?
