NOTRE DAME IS THE MECCA OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL

by Brian P. Foley, The College Baseball Blog

I made my second trip to Notre Dame this past weekend for the Boston College game in South Bend on Saturday. BC was able to walk away with a 27-14 victory in a battle between the only two Catholic schools in the country that play football. I have been to many different college venues in my life and for the second time, I was treated extremely well by the Notre Dame fans and employees.

The reason why Notre Dame is so much fun is that it is one of the most successful programs in the entire nation year in and year out. They are on national TV every week and play some of the best schools in the nation. They also are the talk of the entire nation when they win or lose because everyone either loves Notre Dame or hates them. I fall into the latter category.

We got to South Bend on Saturday about 2.5 hours before the game and went around campus looking at some of the sites. The most interesting site is Touchdown Jesus which is painted on the side of the school's library. We also checked out the Cathedral and the Grotto on campus. The Cathedral has great art and really provides a very interesting place to look at.

My traveling party eventually got into the stadium about 30 minutes before the game where we got to see the Notre Dame band take the field and provide us with the most aggravating fight song in the nation. Everyone that has watched one Notre Dame game in their life knows this song. I still think "For Boston" is a better fight song but no one in the nation knows the song. When we got to our seats, the Notre Dame ushers were saying to us "Welcome to Notre Dame Stadium" like it was a special place to be which it was. The stadium and the fans provide a great atmosphere as there is not a bad seat in the house and the stadium keeps the historical scene without providing a video scoreboard which has become common place in the last twenty years. The best coverage of Notre Dame football is from the student paper which provides a full section on the week's upcoming game by previewing both teams and providing depth charts. Everyone treated us well even though the Irish are now 1-6 and looking at not making a bowl game in the 2007 season under Charlie Weis.

If you love college sports then head to Notre Dame Stadium for a great experience. I took some pictures of the trip which are available here.

That's the worst post ever on EPIC...Notre Dame is pathetic.

I don't think the idea of this post was to discuss how good Notre Dame's football team was. The focus was on the experience you have when you're there. I can't stand Notre Dame, however, I would like to go to one game just because I'm such a fan of college football.

If you can't appreciate that, well... you're sorry.

Enjoy the experience...Who cares about the team on the field.

This was my second trip to ND as I got tickets for Bob Davie's last home game because I was in the area.

Both times I have been out at ND they have been a bad football team but you would not know it from the Notre Dame fans. They are all tailgaiting, every student organization is selling hotdogs, brats, etc before the game.

Enjoy College Football for what it is.
