PAUL BYRD IS A DIRTY CHEATER (UPDATED)

UPDATE: According to Fox Sports, Byrd has admitted to taking HGH under a doctor's care for pituitary gland problems.

"I have not taken any hormone apart from a doctor's care and supervision," Byrd said.
And that's accurate because... Byrd said so?

ORIGINAL STORY: Paul Byrd, who pitched the Cleveland Indians to a Game 4 victory in the ALCS on Tuesday, apparently purchased roughly $25,000 worth of human growth hormone and syringes, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The HGH came from the Palm Beach Rejuvenation Center, a Florida-based anti-aging clinic (which totally makes sense) that was being staked out for illegally distributing performance-enhancing drugs.

Byrd, who will turn 37 this December, could obviously use a little help under the eyes. He even has the old-man-two-fingered-tractor-wave down.

His ERA lowered significantly after he left the Phillies in 2001, which also happens to be shortly before he tweaked his wind-up began taking illegal substances to better his performance. Weird!

According to Byrd's credit card statements, 1,000 vials of growth hormone and hundreds of syringes were purchased between August 2002 and January 2005 when he pitched for the Royals, Braves and Angels.

So, how does one explain buying thousands of dollars worth of HGH? Byrd declined to comment, of course.

This year, he went 15-8 with a 4.59 ERA in 31 regular season starts, and is 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA in the postseason thusfar, which could come to an end this evening when the Tribe take on the Red Sox in Game 7.
