THROWING KNIVES: THAT SOUND? MLB CRYING...

by BD, Epic Carnival

It appears MLB's nightmare is a little closer to coming true as both the D'backs and Rockies hold 2-0 series leads in the NLDS. The Rockies are in the far better position of course, having won both games in Philadelphia. Even better, the Yankees were destroyed in Cleveland 12-3 as Wang was...well you know. Can't say I'm terribly surprised about the South Carolina's win over Kentucky last night. It's not a good sign for the 'Cats though as they've got LSU and Florida both coming up among others. Those wins they'd racked up have lost their luster, with Louisville's fall from grace and Arkansas standing as a middle of the pack SEC team. Marion Jones admitted her steroid use yesterday as well. This is something I think everybody assumed and now it's official. Unfortunately for Marion it could mean jail time. Today I've got Adrianne Palicki (NSFW) as the second season of Friday Night Lights kicks off tonight at 9PM (EST). I'd highly recommend it if your looking for something to watch tonight. It's a drama that centers more on the things off the field then that on it. Though the football aspect is certainly entertaining and tends to effect many of the players off the field. Anyhow, check it out, and for a more in depth look read Adam's FNL primer.

MLB Can Hear The Ratings Shrinking
I have no idea what the ratings looks like thus far for TBS and the MLB, but no matter how good (or bad) they are, they're about to get a lot worse. It looks like, anyway. The national interest in a Rockies-D'backs playoff series will be non-existent. Only the true baseball fans will be watching, and theirs not enough of those to satisfy the MLB's rating expectations. That much is for sure. I'm hoping both teams can finish the sweep and wait an equal number of days to kick off the second round. Maybe then, and then only, will the Rockies be able to hold onto their momentum.

Back to baseball in a second, but....

Marion Jones Admits Steroid Use
While not all that shocking that she used. Her sudden admission is. When you consider the larger-than-life athlete she was as the poster-girl for the Olympics this is disappointing. It nullifies all of her accomplishments regardless of when she achieved them. To be fair though, her admission seems to have come only because of her lying to federal agents who were investigating her PED use. She'll plead guilty to the upcoming charges. Just another of the major athlete's who weren't doing it the way we thought they were.

Now back to baseball....

Even Without The Best Sabathia The Indians Win
Not only did they win, but they absolutely dismantled the Yanks last night in Cleveland. So much for the that 6-0 record eh Yanks fans? C.C. definitely didn't have his best stuff as he got through just 5 innings at 100+ pitches, but it didn't matter. And how about Kenny Lofton? The ageless wonder knocked in 4 and looked as if he was the young Indians CF all over again. Let's hope Carmona brings his best stuff tonight and the Indians can go to NY with a 2-0 lead.

Kaz Matsui
As unlikely as Lofton was to have a big, big day, Kaz Matsui was just as unlikely. It's no secret Matsui's been fantastic since moving out of the NY spotlight and into the Rocky Mountains, but I don't think anyone expected this. Matsui knocked in 5 with a triple, double and a grand slam as the first batter Kyle Lohse faced. The slam gave the Rockies the lead for good as they routed the Phillies and suddenly the Fightin' Phills are on the mat and ref is nearing the ten count.

The SEC Plot Thickens
We all knew the SEC was tough and that it was without a doubt the best conference in College Football. But, the way things are going I'm not sure anyone (LSU included) can go undefeated in this conference. When you have teams like Arkansas and Alabama in the middle to the bototm of the pack your in a damn good conference. Let alone having Florida, LSU, South Carolina, Auburn and Georgia at the top. LSU has Florida, and Kentucky the next two weeks, but even if they survive those it's hard to imagine them having a whole lot left in the tank as they host Auburn and then head to Alabama the following two weeks. Just another example of how brutal the SEC is.

Weekend Expectations
LSU handles Florida as the Gators D can't slow down the Tigers O at all.
Wisconsin narrowly avoids defeat again.
Cincinnati knocks off Rutgers as the Big East turnover continues.
Boston completes the sweep of the Angels.
Cleveland takes a 2-1 lead over the Yankees.
The Rockies and D'backs complete their sweeps.
The Broncos add to the Chargers woes as they pick Rivers multiple times.
Dallas, GB, Indy, and NE all stay unbeaten.
The Saints, Dolphins and Rams remain winless.

Television
The Office was once again fantastic last night as two theme's ran throughout the show. Jim and Pam's relationship is now public because of a jealous Toby who's been pining for Pam since she and Roy broke up. This also lead to an amusing line from Phyllis to make sure Pam wouldn't be sending more clients Jim's way because of "who she's sleeping with." The other major theme was Ryan first in office appearance in which he touted the company's move towards technology. He handed out Blackberry's and talked about the upcoming new website. Which, as you can imagine, met quite a bit of criticism from Micheal who claimed ageism in the face of the changes. Outside of Kelli's fake pregnancy to get Ryan out on a date. The finniest moment this week was when Micheal drove his car into a lake because of a "machine." That machine was the navigation system in his rental car, which I thought was idiot proof, but apparently not.
