It's that time of the year when MLB hands out its hardware and everyone argues over whether or not the right person won. Most times it's the writers who are arguing about the awards, but this time....it's none other than Chipper Jones, who is complaining that David Wright won a Gold Glove for his play at third base:
Wright had the fifth-most errors (21) among NL third baseman, and his .954 fielding percentage was fifth-lowest among NL third baseman, far behind the top three of San Francisco’s Pedro Feliz (.973), Chicago’s Aramis Ramirez (.972) and Chipper (.971), who had nine errors in 126 games at third base.
“I wouldn’t have been disappointed had someone like Feliz or Ramirez won it,” Jones said. “I’m a little confused by the final tally — that’s a head-scratcher for
me.”
“When I find out [Wright won] I was speechless, for quite some time,”
Chipper said. “Certainly the guys with the least amount of errors and best
fielding percentage quite obviously didn’t win it.”
I wonder how his wife and children dealt with Chipper not talking 'for quite some time'. Do you think this was a good thing for them? Maybe he goes home for the off-season and gets on their case for their lacksidasical efforts that they are putting forth. What if they go out to dinner, how does he order food at that point?
This is actually a time when the player is right. Even Bill James had Wright as the 7th best defensive third baseman in the game last season. As we all know the Gold Glove Award has become more of a 'all around' award rather than just an award for defense. Since we have not heard from any representatives from Rawlings, I have to believe they have no problem with this as it garners them more attention.

Great!
Ah, but they all forget how the New York influence helps you win awards like that.
Just look at Derek Jeter.
what about the Nats Ryan Zimmerman? He only had more errors than homers!
