DEAR NEW YORK JETS FANS

by , SimonOnSports

Dear New York Jets Fans,

Please Calm down. Relax a little bit. As a fellow fan I understand the pain and the frustration. We had expectations this year, delusional as they were, and now we are disappointed. No matter the expectations and the failures, there's no reason to jump off the ledge. This sort of thing happens routinely for the Jets. In 2005 we had similar expectations coming off the loss to the Hell I thought that the Jets were going to finish the season at 10-6 again, how wrong I was. We've gone through the Kotite years, we've experienced misery before, this is nothing out of the ordinary.

We sit at 1-8, the current season is completely over, so is another loss really going to kill you? Is finishing 6-10 rather than 2-14 that important to you? We're only two years removed from hoping for losses and the chance at drafting Reggie Bush or Matt Leinart, and now two years later some are starting to jump off the ledge. The entire season many Jets fans have been clamoring for Kellen to play, blaming Chad with the losses when it was blatantly evident that the defense was to blame. Now some, most notably WFAN morning show host Craig Carton, are calling for Mangini's head and yelling the name Bill Cowher. Let's sit back and relax, Eric is a good coach canning him after one miserable year is plain old stupid.

In reality 1-8, 2-7, 5-4 or 8-1 what's honestly the difference? After week 1 it was evident that at no point in time this season were the Jets going to be better than the New England Patriots. So instead of going through the entire season winning games and knowing in the long run we were just going to head into Foxboro for yet another playoff loss, we don't even have to worry about that. Instead of the anger of lost opportunity we get the apathy that comes with loss after loss. And perhaps that's a good thing, perhaps it's better that our season is meaningless at it's current state rather than garnering false hope of Super Bowl Aspirations.

So let us all sit back for the remainder of the season and relax. Let's take a look at Clemens and see if he is a possible franchise quarterback. Let's start scouting the college ranks to see if Glenn Dorsey will be our nose tackle and run stopper of the future. And let us all begin our hopes and prayers that at some point in January we will be watching the Patriots walk off the field frustrated in losing fashion.

Fellow Depressed but Not Angry Jets Fan,

I agree. At this point, why fight to finish 6-10 and pick 8-10 in the first round. Might as well go 2-14 or 3-13 and get one of the first three picks.
